Final Fantasy 7 is one of the most well-known and well-received games in the whole series. From the larger-than-life story with Cloud Strife to the impeccable Materia and combat system, it’s no wonder this game is dubbed as one of the best games in the world. Final Fantasy series.
With an adventure across a planet, Final Fantasy 7 also includes some of the most memorable locations the series has to offer. Although Cloud and his friends have visited countless places on the planet Gaia, these locations stand out as the most awe-inspiring places based on design alone.
10 Aerith’s house
One of the earliest locations in the game, Aerith’s house is best known for its abundance of flowers, similar to those found in Sector 5 Church. Cloud is located in a remote part of Sector 5 and visits this location for the first time when he has to guide Aerith himself.
Compared to the slums and other shady spots in Midgar, Aerith’s house certainly stands out in terms of presentation; the flowers and waterfall give the impression of something out of a fairytale. Initially owned by Aerith’s stepmother Elmyra, the house is eventually abandoned when she and Marlene are taken to Kalm by Cait Sith.
9 Honeybee Inn
Like Aerith’s house, the Honeybee Inn is a prosperous place with the Sector 6 Slums. In this case, however, the Wall Market area is also an affluent area in its own right due to its status as a Sector 6 entertainment district.
While the Honeybee Inn is an optional location, the player can visit it to brighten up Cloud’s iconic disguise after obtaining a membership card. In the Final Fantasy 7 Remakethe Honeybee Inn is much more developed, with Don Corneo and the entertainers putting together elaborate shows every night.
8 Costa del Sol
When it comes to beautiful locations in Final Fantasy 7, the tropical Costa del Sol should be one of the first places that come to mind for players. Needless to say, it’s pretty obvious why Costa del Sol is on this list. It is, after all, a beachfront resort!
After the battle with Jenova-BIRTH, Costa del Sol is the perfect way for Cloud and his friends to rest, play and prepare for what’s to come. Mostly a place for relaxation, Hojo’s brief encounter on the beach foreshadows Cloud’s connection to Sephiroth and Jenova.
7 Golden Dish
Another location that comes to mind when talking about beautiful locations in Final Fantasy 7 is the Golden Dish. With its bright lights and colorful atmosphere, this amusement park is home to many difficult and enjoyable mini-games such as Mog House and the Battle Square.
Though surrounded by desert, the Gold Saucer serves as a much-needed distraction from the outside world, even staying open during the Meteorfall. Known as the happiest place around, things initially took a turn for the worse when several innocent park visitors were murdered by Barret’s old acquaintance, Dyne.
6 Sleeping Forest
The Sleeping Forest, a prelude to the City of the Ancients, is just one example of the greenery that lies beyond Midgar and Corel. Located right after the Bone Village, the forest is home to some powerful materials, namely the Kujata summon materia, although it must be captured immediately before it leaves the screen.
The Sleeping Forest is also known for its repetitive character; immediately traversing the forest will cause the player to repeat the same area over and over. Only when the player acquires the lunar harp can he really go through the forest.
5 Temple of the Ancients
Not all visually stunning sites have to be forests, and no location proves this point better than the Temple of the Ancients. Although it is surrounded by a forest, the temple itself is an architectural marvel with its labyrinthine structure and countless puzzles.
In addition to the lost knowledge of the ancients, the temple contains numerous treasures and items important to the game, including the Ribbon Accessory, Aerith’s Ultimate Weapon, and the Black Materia. It’s also the last dungeon in which Aerith is a playable party member, as she leaves the party shortly after.
4 Forgotten City
Like the Temple of the Ancients, the Forgotten City is another wondrous place with unique buildings and interesting sights. Many of the buildings in the city are reminiscent of the sea with their coral-like structures and the fish illusion in the main chamber, which Cloud and his party must bypass to reach Aerith before Sephiroth.
The most memorable part of the city is a gigantic altar where Aerith can be found praying to the Holy One. After the death of Aerith and the battle against Jenova-LIFE, much of the city is no longer accessible.
3 Cosmo Canyon
A must-see for those interested in nature, Cosmo Canyon is an important place for Cloud and his company. This is not only the birthplace of Red XIII, better known by his real name Nanaki, but also the meaning of the Lifestream and the planet is explored in detail here.
The most notable spot in Cosmo Canyon is the Bugenhagen Observatory, where a full-scale model of the solar system can be seen throughout the story. As his birthplace, Red XIII’s strongest weapon can be found here, and the location itself plays a part in his strongest limit breach Cosmo Memory.
2 Gaea’s Cliff
Gaea’s Cliff, one of the most northerly parts of the planet, has arguably the harshest weather of any location in Final Fantasy 7. Climbing the cliff itself has been proven to be a difficult task as the player has to control his temperature or risk passing out and starting over.
However, after climbing the cliff, players are treated to crystal clear blue caves with icicles tinted in different colors. Unfortunately, Gaea’s Cliff can only be crossed once, as the player cannot access it due to the barrier surrounding the last dungeon.
1 Northern Cave
Speaking of the last dungeon, the Northern Cave is the last piece of the beautiful landscape that the player can see before fighting Sephiroth. Depending on which paths the player decides to take, they can be treated to a variety of environments, such as gloomy cemeteries, beautiful lakes and Mako’s sparkling streams.
As the player descends further into the Northern Cave, Mako’s concentration increases until it reaches a head near the planet’s core. Of course, as the game’s final dungeon, the enemies and treasures found here are some of the rarest in the game.
