US Open action begins
The opening services of the final 2022 Grand Slam tennis tournament were scheduled for Monday morning in New York, and notable seeds for action on the first day included defending the men’s champion and top league (in the absence of unvaccinated Novak Djokovic) Daniil Medvedev (+230 to win the tournament at FanDuel Sportsbook) and American CEO Taylor Fritz (+1900 at FanDuel). But the center of attention is a meeting of unseeded women scheduled for 7pm at Arthur Ashe Stadium: sentimental favorite Serena Williams against Montenegro’s Danka Kovinic. As of Monday morning, FanDuel had Serena at -365 to get past Kovinic and +4800 to claim her 24th Grand Slam title.

Dodgers vs Mets! Anderson vs deGrom!
The US Open isn’t the only major sporting event in Queens this week, as the LA Dodgers come to Citi Field for a three-game set against the Mets, perhaps just a taste of the NLCS. DraftKings has the Dodgers at +165 to represent NL in the World Series and the Mets not far behind at +265. (The Atlanta Braves are +425, and no one else is shorter than 11/1.) The tent pitching contest of the Tuesday-Thursday series comes Wednesday, with LA lefty Tyler Anderson taking on two-time Cy Young winner Jacob theGrom.
Meanwhile, the AL’s most impactful series of the week also runs Tuesday through Thursday, with the Baltimore Orioles heading to Cleveland to take on the Guardians. Both teams – the latter a slightly surprising division leader, the former a truly shocking wildcard contender – are scrapping hard to make it into the postseason.

There’s no place like Kansas
First, Kansas defeated neighboring Missouri in the race to legalize sports betting. Now, barring any last-minute hiccups, the Sunflower State is poised to become the second-fastest state to go from legal to alive when it launches on the first day of September. It will be just 112 days after Governor Laura Kelly signed the bill legalizing retail and mobile gambling.
Of the nine mobile operators with market access, six will be ready to go live on September 1, the Kansas Lottery announced. The switch is expected to flip at 12:00 p.m. CT. Keep a tab open for Sports handle for updated coverage throughout the day.
Engines, start them in Kansas.
Expect Barstool Sportsbook, DraftKings and FanDuel to be among those launching digital and in-person betting.https://t.co/dwlE3kR8Uq

LIV Golf invades Boston
The controversial alternative golf tour that is driving top players away from the PGA with handfuls of dollars is coming to The International in Bolton, Massachusetts, Friday through Sunday. Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau and Dustin Johnson are expected to compete on the trail just outside of Boston. Can you bet on it? That depends on the state you live in. Participants in the event will not be able to legally bet on their phones as Massachusetts is still months away from launching sports betting.

Buckeyes vs. Irish headlines college football Week 1
The college football season started on Saturday, but there were no top 25 teams in action during “Week 0”. The season starts this week for the elite teams. And there’s no question which game gets billed the best on Saturday: No. 5 Notre Dame at No. 2 Ohio State, featuring ABC television. Even against a formidable foe, the Buckeyes are 17.5-point favorites at BetMGM, and Fighting Irish believers can get +525 at Notre Dame on the money line. The top/bottom is 58.5.
In an afternoon game, No. 3 Georgia is preferred by the same 17.5-point margin at home to No. 11 Oregon. And in a contest of particular interest to a few gamblers betting big money on the state of Utah to win the national title with a 1,000/1 chance, that unranked squad visits No. 1 Alabama like a 41-year-old dog on Saturday night. ,5 points.

The rare pay-per-view for boxing on Sunday
FOX sneaks in on one before the NFL season kicks off, offering, on pay-per-view, a meeting of veteran heavyweight contenders Andy Ruiz (best known for disrupting Anthony Joshua at Madison Square Garden in 2019) and Luis “King Kong” Ortiz (best known for a pair of competitive KO losses against Deontay Wilder). Does this fight belong on pay-per-view? Probably not, even on an otherwise light sports Sunday on a holiday weekend. Could it be a fun craft? Absolute. FOX Bet calls Ruiz a -345 favorite and Ortiz a +230 underdog, with a +150 payout for bettors who believe the fight will last the full 12 rounds.
