The time in which The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was released was a pivotal one for gaming. The mid-90s saw the rise of 3D games like Mario 64, and the beloved Zelda entry was also instrumental in ushering in a new era for the industry. As a result, it's gone down as a very influential title, so it's not surprising there was an unofficial PC port made available not long ago, and now said port has been given some pretty interesting updates.

For one thing, "Ship of Harkinian," which is the official title of this version of Ocarina of Time, has had a number of tweaks to it. Some examples include being able to adjust the difficulty settings, binding items to the D-pad, customizable HUD, randomzier mode, and more. There's also the implementation of cheats, such as making it, so Epona doesn't run out of stamina. Perhaps the most interesting change the update brings is that it's now available on both Mac OS and a hacked Wii U console.

It seems like an odd choice to support the latter, especially given that not only is it a much older system now, but the Wii U is one of the most disappointing console generations, being a poor follow-up to the immensely successful Wii. Still, there will likely be some people out there who still have their Wii U, and being able to play "Ship of Harkinian" might make it feel like playing the original OoT on an authentic Nintendo machine.

The unofficial PC port of Ocarina of Time was launched earlier this year. Much like a similar project that was put out that saw a PC release of Mario 64, "Ship of Harkinian" comes with a myriad of modern tweaks. For starters, it has full HD visuals, support for widescreen, and compatibility for both mouse and keyboard controls, which does make sense seeing as it's on PC. It also adds support for mods, which is another thing that goes hand-in-hand with PC gaming.

As for the original itself, the N64 Legend of Zelda title has a score of 99, which makes it Metacritics highest-rated video game of all time. It was paramount in the early days of 3D gaming, and the fact that it's also been spotted running on a Steam Deck shows that people are still wanting to play this classic after nearly a quarter of a century. It being available on the Wii U and Mac OS should hopefully pull in some more players as well.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is available on 3DS, GameCube, Nintendo 64, and Switch.
