FX has renewed its TV series The Bear for a second season. The first season, which has 8 episodes, is available on Hulu to stream. Fans are loving the comedy about characters working in a restaurant, which has an impressive cast including chef Matty Matheson, who plays a handyman named Neil Fak. Christopher Storer created The Bear, and he is known for directing episodes of Dickinson, Little Voice, and Ramy.
Edwin Lee Gibson, Liza Colón-Zayas, Lionel Boyce, Abby Elliot, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Jeremy Allen White star in The Bear. The show's executive producers include Christopher Storer, Joanna Calo, Hiro Murai, Nate Matteson and Josh Senior. The Bear is an impressive, thoughtful comedy and viewers find the portrayal of the restaurant industry to be engaging as the series delves into the problems with it. Since the main character comes from a fine dining background but is now running a sandwich shop, the show discusses the differences between those two environments but shows that working in this field will always be difficult, intense, emotional, and stressful.
The Bear is filmed in Chicago and tells the story of Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto (Allen White), who is an award-winning chef. Carmy moves back home so he can take over The Original Beef of Chicagoland, the restaurant that his brother Michael (Jon Bernthal) ran before his tragic death. The show focuses on the present and the past, sharing what it was like for Carmy to work in fancy restaurants before making this big life change. Carmy also tries to understand his brother better and he is compassionate toward and supportive of Michael's struggles.
Jeremy Allen White is known for starring on Shameless as Phillip "Lip" Gallagher and his other TV credits include four episodes of Homecoming as Shrier and a few episodes of Law & Order and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. The actor also starred in The Rental, the horror movie directed by Dave Franco, as Josh. Jon Bernthal previously starred as Johnny Soprano in The Many Saints Of Newark (2021), Mark in The Peanut Butter Falcon (2019), and Frank Castle on the TV series The Punisher, which ran from 2017 to 2019.
While there are many food TV shows on Hulu, The Bear sets itself apart by finding comedy and drama in the same situations and experiences.
