Chris Evans is rumored to be returning as Captain America, and the Lightyear star explained what it will take for those rumors to come true.

Amidst his departure from the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Endgamemany fans thought it would be Chris Evans’ last appearance captain America on the big screen. However, a recent update gives a glimmer of hope to die-hard fans who want to see Evans wield the iconic Vibranium shield once again.

Although his contract with the Marvel Cinematic Universe ended a few years ago, Evans is still saving the world in a new Disney project. Evans gave his voice to the new Pixar movie titled Light-yearwhich must follow the origin story of the Toys Story Buzz Lightyear character.

At a recent press event to promote Light-year, Evans spoke to ComicBook. During the conversation about Light-year, Evans was asked if he would return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to reprise his previous role as Captain America. Evans told ComicBook: “This seems like something people would like to see.” Evans went on to add that he didn’t want to let Marvel fans down by not returning for a Marvel Cinematic Universe return because “it was such a good run and I’m so happy about it.”

He went on to talk about his past as America’s favorite hero. However, it looks like returning to the role of Captain America will require something special. “It’s so precious to me. It would have to be perfect. It would be scary to shake something that is so, so dear to me. This role means a lot to me. So to revisit it would be a difficult task,” he said.

Talks about Evans returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been live for years. In fact, he was rumored to have a cameo in another Marvel Studios movie rather than having another solo movie. Fans have also asked that Evans’ return be centered around his journey returning the Infinity Stones, which was not shown in Avengers: Endgame. However, none of these projects have been confirmed to be circulating at Marvel Studios and they all appear to be pure speculation.

While Evans returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe would make many fans extremely happy, Evans still seems hesitant about the idea, especially considering that in Avengers: Endgame his character received a heartfelt goodbye with the passing of the shield to Sam Wilson (played by Anthony Mackie). While Evans’ return is “a tall order,” it’s not a complete decline, so there’s a chance that, if the story is right, Evans will return to play Captain America once again in the distant future.

O captain America movies are now available on Disney Plus.
