Astroneer is a survival crafting game set in a fictional universe. Like most survival games, there are several mechanics involved, such as tracking oxygen intake, figuring out how to build a base with power and security from the atmosphere, and finally to more planets in the future.
The biggest obstacle is finding the right materials to make what players need, and not every planet has the necessary materials to make. One of these materials is: plastic, which is needed to create important items. Fortunately, plastic is not such a rare item, as it requires basic materials that can be found on every planet, but it can be difficult to make. For those who want to know how to make it and why it’s so important, check out this guide to find out what the wonders of plastic in Astroneer.
Plastic
When players first land on a planet, they will have a backpack and a gun called the Terrain Tool that they will use to terraform the planet, either by making it flat around their base for aesthetics or by storing up specific items. graves that they can further process into craft materials.
While the main resources needed to make plastic are two common resources found on every planet, there are more steps to work on first. Such as making the chemistry lab, which will refine natural resources to make crafting materials.
The Chemistry Lab
Unfortunately, the chemistry lab is harder to find because of the resources needed to create it. The first thing players should take care of is a medium-sized printer, as that’s the size printer needed to create the Lab.
In terms of resources, players will have to venture across the planet to find Tungsten, Glass, and Ceramic. Tungsten is a refined item that comes from Wolframite, a natural resource with a green-yellow gradient. The two planets players can find this item are in Desolo, in the caves, and Calidor, in the mountains or mantle layers. Once collected, players must create a smelter and melt down the wolframite to make the tungsten.
The next item, Glass, is another refined item to be melted from the kiln. However, the natural ingredient is quartz, which occurs in clusters of pink, hexagonal crystals. Fortunately, this item can be found on all planets, so it will be easier to collect this resource. And finally, ceramics is the next raw material, which is refined by the clay kiln. This material is reddish brown and is found on all planets.
Making plastic
After players finish building the Chemistry Lab, players must collect resources found on each planet and enter them into the Lab, which will work on the materials and produce plastic.
The two materials needed are Compound and Resin, which are easily some of the most common sources. The compound is collected with the terrain tools and resin is made by melting organic wells, which are collected from the flora.
What is plastic used for?
Plastic can become very important for later in the game, making essential tools and buildings necessary for proper survival. This is a list of all the items and the items needed to make it.
