We like a little bloodthirstiness in our video games, and there weren’t many who craved blood more than the Vikings. The Xbox One played host to several titles starring Vikings, in major and minor roles. These are the Top 11 Viking games on Xbox One

#13 Ancestors Inheritance

  • Publisher: 1C Company
  • Developer: Destructive Creations
  • Platform: Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch
  • Release date: August 2019

There are plenty of Viking games that play it “loose” with history, and for good reason, but Ancestor’s Legacy isn’t one of them. In fact, the game is inspired by many of the battles that took place in the Middle Ages, and for that you take control of one of four groups: Viking, Anglo-Saxon, German or Slavs, then go on a mission to take control of the land for to get you.

The twist, though, is that fighting is literally only half the battle. You have to manage resources and protect the temporary bases you get to survive the other armies. You can’t just be fierce, you have to be tactical.

So jump in and see if you can master it all.

#12 Bad North

  • Publisher: Raw Fury
  • Developer: plausible concept
  • Platform: PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
  • Release date: August 2018

Bad North puts a fun twist on Viking games. Since you are not playing Vikings in this title, you are trying to survive their invading hordes!

They came to your house and killed your father, the king, and now people are looking to you to keep them alive. So that’s why you need to start leading your troops as you try to lead an exodus to the safer areas of the world. But be warned, every time you interact with the Vikings, they will get better at trying to track you down.

Be a true leader and get your people to safety… or die trying.

#11 Mount & Blade: Warband

  • Publisher: Koch Media
  • Developer: TaleWorlds Entertainment
  • Platform: Xbox One
  • Release date: September 2016

Once a 2010 PC title, the jump to the Xbox One was especially suited to Mount & Blade: Warband. It doesn’t necessarily deliver much that is new or notable, but the controller support fits the sprawling world with some cool Strategy Role Playing Game elements. It might have a face that only a mom could love, but if you give it a chance, you might find something to love too.

The combat is a bit repetitive, but don’t let that put you off. having a damn good time.

#9 Northgard

  • Publisher: Shiro Games
  • Developer: Shiro Games
  • Platform: Xbox One
  • Release date: September 2019

While Northgard doesn’t have the intricate layers that many other RTSs have at first glance, there are also some incredibly designed scenarios that force players out of their comfort zones to play in ways they’d rather not – making successes all the sweeter when they come. Northgard does some great things, and while the story isn’t too great, it’s more than worth playing for the screenplay design alone.

#8 For honor

  • Publisher: Ubisoft
  • Developer: Ubisoft Montreal
  • Platform: Xbox One
  • Release date: February 2014

Ubisoft certainly shot to the stars when they first launched For Honor, and if we’re honest it was about as good as a game if the Vikings were good at being diplomatic. It was off to a rough start, but what Ubisoft has done with the game over many years of continued support and collaborations has been to create a combative multiplayer title that has created a tight-knit community yearning for more.

#7 Jotun

  • Publisher: Thunder Lotus Games
  • Developer: Thunder Lotus Games
  • Platform: Xbox One
  • Release date: September 2016

While Jotun developer Thunder Lotus Games has certainly taken off in the year since Jotun launched the very cool MetroidVania Sundered and the world famous management sim Spiritfarer, there’s no denying that Jotun is an excellent title in its own right. With a hand-drawn, frame-by-frame art style, Jotun looks and sounds phenomenal, as a boss fighter it’s incredibly sweat-inducing, and the exploration elements, while limited, aren’t bad either.

  • Developer: Crazy Viking Studios
  • Platform: Xbox One
  • Release date: October 2014

There’s a difficulty in Volgarr the Viking that immediately draws comparisons to the Capcom classic, Ghosts and Goblins franchise, and for many, that may be too much, but if you can get past that gigantic obstacle, you’ll find a play experience that won’t let you down. rewards in all the right ways. The SFX are on point, the combat design is fantastic, and the difficulty, while great, is also very decent, making Volgarr a throwback title worth throwing at.

  • Publisher: Ubisoft
  • Developer: Ubisoft Montreal
  • Platform: Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S
  • Release date: November 2020

While so many aspects of the Assassin’s Creed franchise have improved with each new entry, Valhalla, more than any Assassin’s Creed entry to date, suffers from bloated content. Again, it’s excellent stuff, but you can have too much of a good thing, and as brilliant as Valhalla is, you can get tired of it. The world mingles with life, the struggle is the best it’s ever been, it looks and sounds beautiful, and it’s hard to get enough of it…until you do.

#4 The Banner Saga

  • Publisher: Versus Evil
  • Developer: Stoic Studio

  • Platform: Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S
  • Release date: November 2011

What can be said about Skyrim at this point that has been called to the world (geddit?) over and over for the past *almost* 11 years. The world that Todd Howard and co. created still amazes the mind today, and combined with the creative genius the community shares, it has grown into an industrial force like few games we’ve ever seen. It is so loved that for some, Skyrim has become a lifestyle choice.
