The New York Jets will visit the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field in NFL Week 4 on Sunday, October 2 (20/2/10) at 1:00 PM ET.

The Jets are 1-2 after a 27-12 loss to the Bengals in Week 3. Greg Zuerlein scored four field goals, which was all the Jets could muster when the Bengals’ Joe Burrow made three touchdowns with Tyler Boyd, Yes’ Marr Chase and Samaje Perine.

The team gets a much-needed boost of motivation with the return of QB Zach Wilson, who is making his regular season debut after recovering from a bone contusion.

The Steelers share the same 1-2 record as the Jets, giving New York hopes to turn the start of the season. Pittsburgh is on a 2-game loss streak, falling to the Patriots in Week 2 (17-4) and Browns in Week 3 (29-17).

FINAL MEETING: Jets beat Steelers 16-10 on December 22, 2019 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

LAST WEEK: Jets lost to Bengals 27-12; Steelers lost to Browns 29-17.

JETS RAID: GENERAL (9), RUSH (26), PASS (5), SCORING (20).

STEELERS DEFENSE: GENERAL (24), RUSH (28), PASS (22), SCORING (18).

REVENUE DIFFERENCE: Jets minus-4; Steelers plus-3.

JETS PLAYER TO WATCH: QB Zach Wilson. The sophomore QB will make his season debut after sustaining a bone bruise in the Aug. 12 preseason opener in Philadelphia and requiring arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. Coach Robert Saleh doesn’t think rust will be a factor as Wilson has ramped up his training activity in recent weeks, but the focus will be on how he – and his knee – react to game action.

STEELERS PLAYER TO WATCH: QB Mitch Trubisky. Pittsburgh’s onslaught gets off to a slow start and with each sputtering performance, the call for rookie QB Kenny Pickett grows. The Jets and their very average pass defense could be Trubisky’s best chance of pacifying the critics en route to a brutal part of the schedule starting at Buffalo next week.

IMPORTANT MATCHUP: Jets vs Steelers offensive line for seven. Pittsburgh isn’t the same without injured All-Pro outside linebacker TJ Watt, whose ability to create chaos can overshadow the failings of a unit still struggling to stop the run. If New York’s injury-riddled and youthful line can give a boost, it would take some of the pressure off sophomore QB Zach Wilson as he makes his 2022 debut.

KEY Injuries: The Jets placed LT George Fant on the injured reserve with a knee injury earlier this week. Conor McDermott is expected to start in his place. … LB Quincy Williams was dragged off the field last Sunday with a high ankle sprain and will likely miss the game. … Pittsburgh is coming in relatively healthy after a 10-day break from a Cleveland loss. CB Akhello Witherspoon (ankle) is likely out. Levi Wallace, signed during Buffalo’s off-season, will start if Witherspoon can’t go. S Minkah Fitzpatrick started the week in concussion protocol but is expected to play. P Pressley Harvin III (hip) was limited early in the week. The Steelers are out of All-Pro LB TJ Watt, who is on reserve with a left chest injury. Pittsburgh is 0-6 without Watt in the lineup since winning him in the first round of the 2017 draft.

SERIES NOTES: The Steelers have dominated the Jets in Pittsburgh, winning 10 of 11 games (including playoffs) and an all-time 20-6 record against New York. The Jets won their most recent encounter, a 16-10 win at the Meadowlands on December 29, 2019. New York’s lone win in Pittsburgh came in a 22-17 triumph in December 2010, although the Steelers took a measure of revenge. got a month later, when they defeated the Jets on the same field in the AFC Championship game.

STATS AND THINGS: The Jets are aiming to have at least .500 after four games for the first time since 2017, when they were 2-2 under then-coach Todd Bowles before finishing 5-11. …Wilson comes to Pittsburgh with a few streaks: He has thrown 156 consecutive passes and played five games in a row without throwing an INT. … WR Garrett Wilson has 18 catches to tie TE Tyler Conklin for the team leader and is the most of the rookies. Wilson’s 214 yards receiving are tied for second with Atlanta’s Drake London, behind only New Orleans’ Chris Olave (268) among rookies. … Conklin’s 18 catches are the most by a tight end of Jets in three games since the 1970 merger. … The Jets are only 17 to 47 (36.2%) in third place this season, leaving they are 19th in the competition. … Greg Zuerlein has three field goals from 50 or more yards this season, making it the eleventh player in league history with at least 40 — he has 41 — from that distance. He is also the first Jets kicker to have three field goals from 50 yards or more in the first three games of a season. … The Steelers nudged DT Montravius Adams to the top of the depth chart, replacing veteran DT Tyson Alualu. Pittsburgh’s run defense, which finished last in the NFL in 2021, has struggled to take a step forward this season. Pittsburgh is 28th in rushing yards, although the Steelers are 12th in yards per carry. …Slow starts are nothing new in Pittsburgh lately. The Steelers have been 9-10-1 in September since 2017. Pittsburgh has typically been much better once the calendar turns to October. The Steelers are an NFL-best 41-15 since Mike Tomlin took over in 2007, including a 24-6 score at home. … Pittsburgh is 20-10 after nine days of rest and has won eight games in a row in the week after playing on Thursday, going back to 2013. … The Steelers make a habit of playing in close games. Fifteen of their past 20 regular season games have been decided by eight points or less, going back to 2021. That number would have been 16 out of 20 had it not been for a fluke in the end zone during the final game last week in cleveland. … Steelers Pro Bowl WR Diontae Johnson has gotten at least five passes in 15 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the NFL. However, Johnson made a significant drop in the second half of last week against Cleveland, negating a potentially big win. …While Watt is out, Alex Highsmith, third year outside of LB, is taking in a little slack. Highsmith has 4 1/2 sacks through three games. His career high is six sacks posted last season.

FANTASY TIP: Expect the Jets to test Pittsburgh’s shaky running defenses early in an effort to help Wilson get comfortable. Taking a flyer at Jets RB’s Breece Hall or Michael Carter can pay off.
