After the release of Jujutsu Kaisen 0 on Crunchyroll, many fans of the hit series will finally get to see the animated adaptation of Yuta Okkotsu’s origin. Yuta is one of the most promising characters in the series, and even before the production of the Jujutsu Kaisen movie, he was already established as a wizard with the potential to outdo the extremely powerful Gojo Satoru.
After starting out as a cursed human with little or no powers of his own, Yuta was taken in by Gojo and enrolled in Jujutsu High. While there, he decided to use his curse for the benefit of others and grew rapidly in strength as a result. Now he is one of the most powerful wizards in the series, with a wide range of powerful abilities, made possible mainly by his special parentage.
8 Hand-to-hand combat skill
As he soaks his fists and fortifies his body with cursed energy, Yuta becomes an extremely powerful force in close quarters combat. He can outsmart his opponents and create openings that allow him to deal significant damage.
In his fight against Suguru Geto, after his sword was broken, he was still able to deliver a powerful blow that sent the special-class wizard flying. Later in the series, he is seen in a direct confrontation with two strong reincarnated jujutsu wizards. He initially held his own with bare hands, then used a cursed tool that wrapped his arm in steel, giving him even more strength.
7 Expert sword fighting
Despite being adept at hand-to-hand combat, Yuta’s main weapon is a katana. His first was bestowed on him by Gojo to help him better control his power, but it was eventually broken due to an improper infusion of cursed energy. Notwithstanding, Yuta shows a great deal of skill with a sword, being able to rival Geto for a short period of time, albeit in a two-on-one showdown.
This ability was furthered through intensive training with Maki and the rest of his classmates at Jujutsu High, as well as through confrontations with various cursed spirits. During his later appearances in the series, he becomes much more adept at infusing cursed energy into his katana, enabling some extremely deadly attacks.
6 Reverse Cursed Technique
By harnessing and multiplying two sources of negative cursed energy, it is possible to create positive energy capable of creating and healing. This process is called the reverse curse technique and it is a complex jujutsu that not many wizards can perform.
Yuta is not only able to manifest this positive energy, but also radiate it directly, a feat that even Gojo is not capable of. He used this technique to heal Itadori Yuji while on the brink of death, and also to eliminate the cursed spirit Kurourushi of special quality.
5 Superhuman strength and speed
Using cursed energy, Yuta can dramatically increase his physical abilities to superhuman levels. As a result, he gains enough strength, speed, and stamina that he can fight unarmed against some of the most powerful creatures in the series. One of the first displays of this ability was in confrontation with Geto after it infiltrated Jujutsu High.
During this fight, the man-hating wizard noticed that Yuta gained even more speed as he fought. After attacking along with Rika, Yuta was able to shorten the distance in an instant, delivering a powerful punch that was also boosted by cursed energy.
4 Immense cursed energy output
Most likely due to his unique lineage, Yuta essentially has a bottomless amount of cursed energy. As a result, he is able to fire big blasts while barely depleting his reserves.
During his fight against the cursed ghost Kurourushi, he eliminated all the ghosts’ offshoots with a large amount of energy from his katana. He also showed the ability to release positive energy at a steady rate, as seen when he repeatedly self-healed while fighting Ryu Ishigori and Takako Uro.

In just under a year of practicing jujutsu, Yuta revealed that he could mimic special techniques that are naturally exclusive to other wizards. This ability was developed using his connection to Rika and is still usable with what’s left of her presence.
Yuta has great freedom with this ability and can use it in many different situations. In addition, the techniques he copied is not known to disappear over time, and he can also use several in quick succession. It is not yet known if there is a limit to the number of techniques he can learn, but as of now, his capacity seems to be limitless.
2 Precise control over cursed energy
While he was originally unable to properly handle cursed energy — struggling to imbue his katana with cursed energy and thereby break it — Yuta is now one of the most proficient users in the series. He can apply it in different ways and it helps him a lot in battle.
This allows him to fortify his body with cursed energy and perform advanced reverse cursed energy techniques. He can also use his fine control in combat to mislead opponents about the nature of his attacks, giving him an extra amount of unpredictability.

Depending on the strength of his will and the surrounding circumstances, Yuta can give birth to powerful cursed spirits with the rank of special rank. Even as a child he was able to achieve this, and it was most likely the first expulsion of cursed energy he ever performed.
Though unconscious, he gave birth to the special rank cursed spirit Rika from the corpse of his childhood friend Rika Orimoto. In this case, Yuta’s ability took the form of a curse and tied Rika’s soul to him until he finally undo it. It is also explained that this ability was made possible by his connection to Sugawara Michizane, one of the three great apparitions of Japan.
