Although the Simpsons writers devoted an episode to cryptocurrency in 2020, the XRP price prediction does not really exist.
Ripple Bulls are being tricked
a fake one Simpsons screenshot tricked humble Ripple investors.
A still image of Bart Simpson scribbling “XRP to hit $589+ by EOY” on his school’s blackboard started making the rounds on social media again this week. However, those who shared the photo have not been able to verify its authenticity. Several crypto media outlets, YouTube videos, and Reddit posts have mistakenly cited the fake screenshot as one of the show’s other famous predictions.

The Simpsons has made headlines several times over its 34 seasons for seemingly predicting major world events. Notable predictions include the election of Donald Trump as US president in 2016 and Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2017. While the series on Bart’s board is a mainstay of the show’s opening titles, the XRP is prediction is basically an edited screenshot and never actually aired at the start of any of the show’s 729 episodes.
The fake screenshot dates back to 2020, when a YouTube channel called “XRP talk and speculation” used it in a video thumbnail. More than a year later, the XRP talk and speculation Twitter account admitted that they took the screenshot especially for one of their videos. However, it seems that the tweet went largely unnoticed, allowing the misinformation surrounding the fake image to spread.
Coincidentally, The Simpsons made an episode devoted to cryptocurrency around the same time the fake screenshot appeared. On February 23, 2020, “Frinkcoin” aired on the Fox network and focuses on one of the show’s long-standing characters, Professor Frink, who is creating his own cryptocurrency. Despite the crypto connection, that episode’s opening credits don’t include a chalkboard sequence where Bart makes an XRP price prediction.
Ripple Labs and its XRP token have dominated the headlines in the crypto space this week, thanks to new developments in the Securities and Exchange Commission case against the company. Both Ripple and the SEC have called for summary judgment, meaning the case will not go to trial and will instead be decided by its judge Analisa Torres. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse also appeared on Fox Business, calling the regulator “cuckoo for cocoa powders” and indicating that he believed Ripple would win the case.
In response, the XRP token rose more than 50%, showing that the market shares Garlinghouse’s belief in a victory for Ripple. However, the token has since recovered most of its gains, likely due to the deteriorating macroeconomic situation affecting risky assets such as cryptocurrencies.
A decision on whether Ripple’s 2018 XRP token sale was an unregistered securities offering is expected in mid-December.
