Wichita State basketball fans should invest in an ESPN+ subscription before the 2022-23 season.

The American Athletic Conference released a series of conference games Wednesday afternoon, revealing that a record nine WSU games in conference play will be available on the streaming service alone. Add to that seven non-conference games that are on ESPN+ and half of this season’s WSU games will be available on service only.

With the full non-conference list previously reported by The Eagle and conference matchups released by the AAC was all that was left for Wednesday’s release of game dates, tips, and TV assignments. The Shockers will make their public debut at the Koch Arena on Wednesday, November 2, before a 7 p.m. exhibition game against Newman.

Wichita State opens the 2022-23 season on Monday, November 7 against Central Arkansas in a tip at 7 p.m. at the Koch Arena. The non-conference slate is highlighted by challenging road trips to Kansas State (Dec. 3) and Richmond (Nov. 17), a Thanksgiving week, two-game tournament in Kansas City (Nov. 21-22), the annual Intrust Bank Arena- bring game against Oklahoma State (December 17) and SEC foe Missouri to Koch Arena (November 29).

Obviously, the Shockers, who have an overhauled roster with just two rotational players from last season’s 15-13 team, will not be pegged as a championship contender by conference officials this season, as the Shockers are not featured in prime-time games. on CBS or ESPN in their 18-game slate.

The nine conference games on ESPN+ put WSU right on average for the conference: not as many streaming-only games as shows like East Carolina (12), South Florida (12), and Tulsa (12), but not as many linear television shows like Houston, Memphis and Cincinnati.

It’s going to be a challenging start to the conference game for the Shockers, who return from the Christmas break for a practice day and then fly straight to Orlando for a road race at UCF on December 28. The Shockers then return home for a two-game swing at Koch Arena against East Carolina (December 31) and Cincinnati (January 5).

In total, there will be five midweek conference games at the Koch Arena—all against squad in Cincinnati (January 5), Tulane (January 25), Houston (February 2), UCF (February 8) and Memphis (February 8). 23) – and four weekend afternoon games. WSU’s four seniors on the team, Craig Porter, Gus Okafor, James Rojas and Isaiah Poor Bear-Chandler, will be recognized in the final home game of the season against South Florida on March 5.

While the Shockers won’t be playing games until November, there are plenty of dates in September and October to keep fans interested before the season kicks off.

The first official team training is on Monday, September 26, exactly 42 days before the season opener. The Shockers host Shocker Madness on Thursday, October 27, and two days later, they will spend the day practicing with Missouri State in closed scrimmage on Saturday, October 29.
