We all know Teikō Junior High’s unstoppable basketball team, the Generation of Miracles. These six players have their own unique talents that fused together perfectly to create a team force on the field. From Kise’s Perfect Copy to Akashi’s Emperor Eye, the Generation of Miracles has incredible abilities.
It seemed impossible to beat them, and it was. Even going to different high schools, they became the stars of their respective teams. However, that doesn’t mean they are the only strong players in Kuroko’s Basketball. The Uncrowned Kings are five players from different schools that are said to rival the Generation of Miracles.
Who are the uncrowned kings?
There was one generation of five players above the Generation of Miracles, who could have been a part of them. In fact, if they were in the right place at the right time, they could collectively be considered the “Generation of Miracles.” This group consists of Teppei Kiyoshi of Serin High, Makoto Hanamiya of Kirisaki Daīchi High and Reo Mibuchi of Rakuzan High, Kotaro Hayama and Eikichi Nebuya.
Teppei Kiyoshi
Kiyoshi is the center of Seirin High and founder of the basketball club, who later appeared in the anime. He was hospitalized for an injury sustained in a match, but came back stronger than ever. Kiyoshi is described as the “most honest man in basketball”. He has a genuine love for basketball and his teammates and urges them to just “have fun” on the court. Captain Hyūga said Kiyoshi is a “strange center” in that he has a point guard’s passing feel and can dribble and shoot. He is a versatile player who has earned the nickname “Iron Heart”.
Besides being the tallest player on Seirin, Kiyoshi also has abnormally large hands. This gives effect to his signature Right of deferral power. He holds the basketball like a handball in his big hands, allowing him to change his choices when players would normally let go of the ball. Predicting Kiyoshi’s movements is pointless because he can change hands after looking at others. He also performs the “Vice Claw”, a defensive maneuver where he grabs a ball in mid-air with one hand.
Makoto Hanamiya
The number 4 player, coach and captain of Kirisaki Daīchi High is Makoto Hanamiya. He is the polar opposite of Kiyoshi; where Kiyoshi is the most honest basketball player, Hanamiya is the most dishonest. Endowed with an IQ of 160, Hanamiya uses his genius to create plays that destroy his opponents. Hanamiya also orchestrated Kiyoshi’s injury, causing hospitalization. He is cunning, sadistic and cruel.
Hanamiya possesses the ability to read his opponents’ attack patterns and steal balls. This has been his specialty for years. When he plays with Kentaro Seto, the center of Kirisaki Daīchi, he becomes a different kind of power. Seto is the only one on the team who can keep up with Hanamiya’s predictions. Only, there are certain steps he can’t follow. However, with the addition of Seto, he can steal any pass with 100% accuracy. He traps his opponents in a figurative spider web.
Reo Mibuchic
Three of the five members of the Uncrowned Kings are part of the Rakuzan High basketball team, captained by Seijūrō Akashi, the former captain of the Generation of Miracles. Mibuchi is Rakuzan’s vice-captain and gunner guard, nicknamed “Yaksha” (a Buddhist nature fairy). He is tense and tense, but respectful of his peers.
Mibuchi is a master of various shooting forms. He is capable of taking notoriously difficult shots that should be next to impossible. His two main ways of shooting are away from the opponent and confront him. Mibuchi is able to transfer power from his body into the ball without losing it. His three main forms of shooting are heaven, earth and void. Heaven is Mibuchi’s faded three-pointer, Earth is where he contacts an opponent and shoots causing a shot or foul, and Void is a shot that he lands without letting his opponent do anything.
Kotaro Hayama
Rakuzan’s Small Forward is Kotaro Hayama, the “Lightning Beast”. Hayama is as energetic as he is competitive. His jovial and childish demeanor is not overlooked as he absolutely hates losing.
Hayama’s main skill is his thunderous Lightning Dribble, which literally shakes the ground and does eardrums. As the name suggests, this ability allows Hayama to dribble the ball at lightning speed. The ball seemingly disappears into thin air. Absolutely nothing goes beyond Hayama’s speed and agility.
Eikichi Nebuya
Nebuya is the center of Rakuzan. His muscular build and colossal size earn him the nickname “Herculean Strength”. Nebuya believes in strength above all else; the stronger you are and the more muscle you have, the better. His voracious pre-match binge eating makes him stronger on the field.
Power is everything to Nebuya. He doesn’t have any specific abilities like the rest of the uncrowned kings, but what he does have is sheer strength. He injects this force into every move he makes on the field. In fact, all of his moves are centered around his muscles, such as “Muscle Rebound” and “Muscle Dunk”. Nebuya knows no tricks and jokes; for him, basketball is all about pure muscle power.
