GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Assassin’s Creed Infinity it’s been rumored for a long time and it’s supposed to represent the future of the franchise, but Ubisoft hasn’t been very clear about what exactly it is. Originally, rumors suggested it would become a multi-era live service title and serve as the platform for the franchise in the future. During the most recent Ubisoft Forward, Ubisoft unveiled Codename Red and Codename Hexeand then went on to say that those two games would be connected via Infinity. That has left many people wondering what? Infinity should be, and Ubisoft hasn’t done much to explain it further.

Assassin’s Creed Infinity is the future of Assassin’s Creed

Assassin’s Creed Infinity was announced alongside the next entries in the franchise, but Ubisoft didn’t really elaborate on what it was. People once thought it was a game, but this announcement made it sound a lot more like a launcher. Now interviews suggest it’s even more than a launcher as it will continue the modern storyline and include a brand new multiplayer mode. That makes it sound like a game, but apparently it will also be a launcher and a hub; and therein lies the current confusion.

According to Ubisoft, Infinity will serve as a platform connecting past and future Assassin’s Creed spell. This platform, together with . launched Codename Red, and it will represent the future of the franchise. Players can still buy Codename Red or Hex like any other game, but the games are connected through this hub. All this makes it sound like it will serve as a brand new launcher for Assassin’s Creed like Ubisoft Connect, but apparently it will be much more.

Ubisoft has plans for Assassin’s Creed Infinity to be much more than a launcher. The modern storyline will now live within Infinityand all future Assassin’s Creed titles will exclusively explore the past. The story that Ubisoft wants to tell with it will evolve over time and put the player at the center as Infinity will apparently work as a real Animus. The hub will also have a multiplayer mode that links all the different games together, which only makes the concept more confusing.

Assassin’s Creed Infinity has many game elements and will include several others Assassin’s Creed video games, but it doesn’t become a game itself. It won’t be a launcher either, because it will be something else. Players load the different games via Infinity, and it will allow Ubisoft to create all kinds of different titles of different sizes. When it comes out, it will serve as the next evolution of the franchise, but fans are eager to know what to expect.

Ubisoft must show players what Infinity is

Assassin’s Creed Infinity seems to try a lot of different things, and it can be very confusing to figure out what it is. Many parts of it sound like it’s a simple launcher, while other parts of it sound like it’s a game. Ubisoft did little to clear up this confusion when it announced it on the Ubisoft Forward, and the interviews didn’t help much. The best way for Ubisoft to break through this confusion would be to show the product, or at least show concept art.

Assassin’s Creed Infinity is most likely a long way off, if Codename Red will be the first title to use it. Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the next entry in the franchise, which will launch in 2023. Ubisoft has not said when Codename Red will launch, but it will most likely be in 2024 or beyond. It doesn’t even have a name yet, and all players have seen is a logo, which could mean the game won’t be ready in a while. That would also mean that Infinity is a long way off, and Ubisoft may not have a working version of the hub ready.

Assassin’s Creed fans are a little confused about what this hub is actually trying to be, and Ubisoft has something to show them. While it may not work yet, the fan base at least deserves to see concept art in whatever stage it is. Showing off some concept art will help fans visualize what this new future will look like, and Ubisoft can use it as a way to better explain what it’s thinking. In any case, the studio needs to give a clearer message of what this will look like outside of the various interviews the developers have done.

Assassin’s Creed Infinity should be the future of the franchise, but many fans are confused. It sounds like a launcher in one breath, but a game in the other, and that has left many players scratching their heads. It should show what it is Infinity will look like, or it just needs to explain it better. If players better understood what it was, more of them could jump aboard the hype train, because right now, many players are just waiting at the station.

Assassin’s Creed Infinity is currently under development.
