ITV has announced that its streaming app, ITV Hub, will stop working on yet another set of devices this month – but this time two very popular Freeview Play boxes from Humax were added to the growing list – a move many households are about to do. will affect the whole world. country.
The Humax FVP-5000T, which launched in 2017, has long been one of the best Freeview Play recorders (and is still on our list of recommended Freeview boxesas well as the listings of many other review sites.)
In addition, the FVP-5000T is still sold today, both directly from Humax and at many third-party retailers, with new buyers may not be aware that ITV Hub will no longer work on these devices as of 28 Sept.
The Humax FVP-4000T Freeview box, which is a bit older (as of 2015), has also been added to the ITV Hub red list (see full list of affected devices below).

As we’ve reported in recent weeks, ITV is upgrading content protection technology on its streaming platform ahead of ITV Hub will be replaced by ITVXITV’s new streaming service.
But the upgrade is not compatible with many older devices, including Smart TVs from brands like Hisense and Panasonicvarious specific Samsung TV Modelsand Humax’s Freesat boxes.
ITV Hub is normally available on a wide range streaming devices like the Amazon Fire TV and Roku, as well as on some Freeview Playboxes and TVs, and connected Freesat set-top boxes (but only the newer 4K versionsfrom September).

The app relies on broadband and you can use it to watch catch-up programs and box sets on demand, as well as watch ITV’s live feeds (on some devices).
in Nov, ITV Hub to be replaced by a new streaming service – ITVXwhich will contain over 15,000 hours of content (compared to 4,000 on ITV Hub, until a few months ago).
Most of the content on ITVX will be free (with ads), but there will also be a premium tier that will add BritBox to the mix.

The plan is for the ITVX app to be available on any device that currently supports ITV Hub (as well as some new ones, such as Sky Q), but devices that can no longer access ITV Hub – including the Humax FVP-5000T – most likely will too. do not support ITVX.
ITV Hub abandons Humax Freeview boxes
At the end of September, ITV Hub will stop working on two of Humax’s Freeview recorders: FVP-4000T and FVP-5000T.
While the FVP-4000T is no longer sold as new (at least not officially), the FVP-5000T Freeview Playback recorder is still available on many retailers’ websites.

Earlier, when we asked a Humax spokesperson about ITV Hub is leaving their Freesat boxeswe were told that “Customers are currently being advised via email and their set-top boxes. If customers have any questions about their particular Humax device, our customer service team will be happy to assist you on 0344 318 8800.”
We have reached out to Humax regarding the addition of the FVP-5000T to the list and will update this article if they have more to add.
It is important to note that the linear ITV Freeview channels – the one you are get through an antenna (or satellite, on Freesat) – is not affected by this change.
The only component that has stopped working, on affected devices, is the broadband-based ITV Hub app, which is mainly used to stream catch-up content and box sets.
ITV started publishing the list of affected devices a few weeks ago, but what started out as a list of a few older models is getting bigger and bigger every week.
