The team at one of the fastest-growing tech companies in the Southwest, Black Nova Designs, is celebrating this year’s Video Games Day by hosting a 24-hour gaming challenge on Monday, September 12 to raise awareness of mental health issues.

Boss Kyle Holmes is joined by website developer Steven Willis and IT engineer Dean Baker for a whole day and night of non-stop gaming.

The trio will live stream the event on Facebook, YouTube and Twitch from 11:59 PM Sunday 11th to 11:59 PM Monday 12th. Not only will this give viewers a chance to watch the team, it will encourage and engage everyone who participates, donates and watches.

Supported by their peers for 24 hours, the guys are motivated to take on the challenge and raise money for the mental health charity MIND while showing how gaming, especially where you have to work with other players, has huge benefits can have for well-being. Within each platform will be a direct link that allows users to donate £1 to the charity.

Kyle said, “Being a lifelong gamer, I know how much fun you can have from playing video games. Whether you’re playing alone or with friends, it can give you a real sense of achievement, boost your confidence, and it can be a put a smile on your face. Chatting with your friends while playing can also really help reduce stress and loneliness. It can be a really nice way to relax.”

The trio will play a wide variety of games, team up and work together to overcome the challenges of Call of Duty, League of Legends and PUBG, among others.

“I know how much gaming has helped me and the idea of ​​the livestream event was not just to raise money for a great cause, but also to give others an insight into the fun the three of us are having while gaming,” he added. Kyle to it.

Earlier this year, Kyle and his team also launched a series of free weekend events for young people that taught them how to build their own gaming PC and help them stay safe online.

His inspiration came from his stepdaughter and how being online with friends helped her cope with her feelings during the pandemic.

“Speaking to her friends online made her feel like she wasn’t alone, that she wasn’t excluded from her peers,” said his wife Danielle, who is also director of Black Nova.

Video Games Day originated in the US and the industry has continuously grown, with an estimated three billion gamers worldwide and the number is increasing every year. Reportedly worth over $100 billion with $4.5 billion spent on games every year, the industry is a driving force in society.

While money plays a big part in gaming, which involves platforms in betting and sports, the principle remains the same. Gaming is a form of entertainment, for users to enjoy and seek redemption in everyday life.
