Activision’s highly anticipated Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 has been at the center of the FPS shooter genre recently, ever since the beta was released earlier for those who pre-ordered early on PlayStation. Fans took the opportunity to delve into a number of multiplayer experiences such as ‘Team’ and ‘Domination’, with a group of select maps at their disposal.
Keeping in mind the early beta, there are understandably certain gameplay mechanics and general game features that will take some extra work before the full game is finally available on October 30th. Based on the positive reception so far, developers will try to increase this to the optimal point.
6 Increase time to kill
As with complaints and controversy for previous titles such as Black Ops: Cold War beta, Modern Warfare (2019), and the ongoing Forefront, some fans have expressed concerns about the time to kill in the beta feeling it’s too fast. Players often don’t have the ability to move or retaliate after taking damage.
Reasoning why this has been maintained may boil down to the idea of realism and making the multiplayer experience as brutal and grounded as possible, depending on the design choices made. Given the two opposing crowds on this front, Infinity Ward and the other Activision studios working on this title will have to settle for one or the other, which will inevitably leave some disappointed. Extending the time to kill will be beneficial for extending firefights, making for more intense encounters in lobbies.
5 Hit Feedback
One of the more crucial aspects of Duty titles are the game’s audio and visual cues, allowing players to maneuver quickly and navigate their way out of overwhelming scenarios. While the audio cues for players’ footsteps and movements are very intact in the beta, the visual feedback for when a player has been hit is lacking compared to predecessors.
Despite the presence of on-screen effects that indicate damage being dealt, this alternates with time to kill, as the time players are given to react to these seem to have decreased. Adjusting this correctly requires developers to strike a good balance, it’s not too fast and not too long, while also implementing much clearer visual cues when taking damage.
4 Kill/streak notification
In Modern Warfare (2019) and the abundance of others Duty submissions, players will receive a quick on-screen notification that would mark a successful kill or show the player’s streak. While this is definitely present here in the beta of modern warfare 2, it is less visible than usual without any color options and is placed at the bottom of the screen instead of the center.
Many fans may think this is less important in the grand scheme of things, but some players know it’s helpful in tracking kills while staying alert and moving during battle. The best move for Infinity Ward to include this aspect is to give players the freedom to choose where and how they want to present these notifications, similar to the color options of companions and enemies.
3 User environment
Since this will almost certainly change upon release, specifically once the first season becomes available to players, fans will be clamoring for much better menu design and UI details in gameplay. As with other innovations on the menu screen. This benefits navigation and gives the title a fresh look.
While not integral to the game’s success like the other crucial factors, players will appreciate the developers’ effort at the idea of polishing up menu screens and possibly even tailoring them to each’s set themes and context. release of their seasons.
2 Enemy Name Display
Crucial to any enemy encounter in lobbies is the representation of the player’s team and opposition. As far as fans have seen in this beta, this feature seems absent from the title, which may come as a surprise to many as it’s considered a requirement in most FPS games.
This omission makes spotting enemies and choosing targets much more difficult for players to be successful, and can very much boil down to Infinity Ward’s design choices with the aim of creating a realistic and grounded experience. Rather than being a prominent change across all game modes, the best option here would be to have this as an option for players to toggle on or off, or possibly have it heavily featured in hardcore modes.
1 Battle Rage Skill
This ability is one of the new additions in ‘Field Upgrades’ and allows players to last much longer in firefights as their health recovers much faster, while making them more invulnerable to tactical gear used by enemies. This gives fans a gung-ho feeling, as there are more opportunities to attack enemies while still being careful.
The problem here is the on-screen effects while this ability is active, which can be distracting when spotting enemies, depending on the brightness and environment of each map. Adjusting this would lead to the perfect product and one that is not overwhelmed given the presence of a cooldown.
