My Hero Academia Chapter 367 dropped recently and delivered a pretty interesting sequel to Mirio’s short-lived clash against Shigaraki Tomura. Towards the end of the previous chapter, fans saw Deku spring into action and deliver a powerful punch to the greatest villain of all time. This chapter followed and, while the action was certainly lacking, there was a really good character display for both Deku and, even Shigaraki, to some extent.
At the same time, fans were also shown an inner conflict for Deku, which many predicted would happen. Seeing his best friend in front of him would definitely stir up emotions and Horikoshi did very well on this point. That, and much more, was addressed in My Hero Academia 367, which turned out to be quite an addition to the Final War arc.
Deku arrives on the scene
The beginning of the chapter saw Deku make his way to where the heroes confronted Shigaraki. With everyone putting their trust in him, Deku felt stronger than ever and delivered a mighty powerful Smash to his nemesis. It is expected that everyone around Deku cheered for him and since he is the one who has inherited the power of All Might, it goes without saying that it was a moment of relief for everyone to have him. At the same time, Deku looked around to get an idea of the terrain on which he would fight, but he only encountered the fallen bodies of his comrades. The members of the UA Big Three, along with Bakugo, were all on the ground dying.
This was a test of character for Deku and his determination as a hero. Deku is still very young. Although he possesses the power of the One For All, the same ability that made All Might the symbol of peace, he has not yet matured to a level where he can compete with All Might. He lacks combat experience and he lacks the wisdom that All Might possessed. At that point, Deku lost himself and went completely mad, just like he did when fighting Shigaraki in the Paranormal Liberation War arc. According to the latter, Deku seems to have gotten much stronger since then.
The role of Mirio
Mirio played a huge role and My Hero Academia 367 after Deku became enraged. Everything worked perfectly for All For One because he wanted Deku to lose control of his emotions, leaving him open to counter-attacks. However, it was Mirio who gave all fans a moment of hope by calming Deku. Not only did he make it clear to Deku that nothing was lost yet, but he also delivered a powerful speech about Heroes’ optimism that pushed them to save the day every time. It is this optimism that has kept the Hero Society alive for centuries.
Heroes should hope for the best and save everyone with a smile. While that may be idealistic, as All For One pointed out, in the end it’s something the Heroes must believe in order to save everyone. The first step for any hero is to believe in themselves and in the fact that they can save everyone around them. Losing sight of that would mean that the heroes are fighting a losing war. Thanks to Mirio, Deku not only came to his senses, but also provided a much-needed reaffirmation of faith for everyone in the Heroes.
Everything for your plan
All For One currently has great control over Shigaraki’s body. This has slowly come to pass in the series and even towards the end of the Paranormal Liberation War arc, fans have seen All For One slowly overwhelm Shigaraki and take his body away from him. Especially when he clashed with Deku, All For One started manifesting itself more and has only been doing so more since. At this point, it was easy for Deku to understand that he is fighting All For One and not Shigaraki. The plan for All For One was to infuriate Deku so much that he loses all sense of appearances and attacks without any strategy.
In his furious mode, All For One could easily aim for a counter and a single touch would be enough to completely obliterate Deku as he would be oblivious to incoming attacks. To do this, he tried to kill Bakugo, but failed in this attempt.
Nevertheless, Deku became enraged to see him lying on the ground dying, and to some extent All For One’s plan certainly worked. Thanks to Mirio, however, Deku came to his senses. He was told that everyone was still alive and that nothing was lost. As idealistic as it is, it’s the same optimism that ultimately makes them heroes. Keeping everyone’s hopes and dreams in his heart, Deku now prepares to fight All For One and have an honest conversation with Shigaraki Tomura. The next chapters of My Hero Academia are critical to both Deku and Shigaraki.
