The battle between Marvel and DC isn’t as sordid as many corporate rivalries, but there’s still some hardcore conflict between the more devoted fans. If Marvel wants to take a stab at their competition and add a much-loved and respected talent to their universe, look no further than Brendan Fraser.
Brendan Fraser is simultaneously a respected actor with a long history of great performances and an internet treasure loved by many on a personal level. The career renaissance he is currently enjoying is heartwarming not only for his many fans, but also for the actor himself, and there is still room to grow.
As most people know by now, Warner Bros. without mercy their batgirl film, leading to massive confusion and cultural backlash. The film was more or less finished, there was quite a bit of hype behind it, several big names lightened up the cast and it portrayed a character with a strong fan base in the comics. Most have seen the bizarre decision to toss a finished movie in the trash as a substantial bleeding wound in the long-suffering DCEU. emergency landing batgirl, seemingly for a tax write-off, leaves a lot of things on the table. The film would have introduced Barbara Gordon to the screen in her new DCEU form, but it would also have brought Michael Keaton back for the first time in decades. Studios cancel movies all the time, but this is one of the most public and disastrous clumsiness of modern times. One of the most notable ball-drops in this cascading failure was the fact that talk of the town cast Brendan Fraser as the film’s villain, leaving an actor with a huge buzz on the table at exactly the wrong time.
Being cast in a superhero movie has a certain meaning beyond getting a role elsewhere. It’s no different from a recurring role on a TV show. A beloved character in a superhero franchise will keep popping up even if they die violently on their first appearance. If fans love them, they will eventually come back. Even as a relatively minor Batman villain, Snagging Brendan Fraser could have been a big deal. For the same reason, Marvel may be recruiting the star behind it the mummy and add it to the studio’s huge roster. There is a sense of inevitability among many movie fans as more and more big names are joining one superhero franchise or the other. It’s always big news when a great actor is cast in a Marvel or DC project. In the future, different artists may become an object of discussion between studios.
Casting Brendan Fraser is more than just an act of sabotage of the company or an appeal to the artist’s huge fan base, it’s also just a great casting decision in various roles. From the early 90s to the late 2000s, Fraser was a sought-after talent in everything from studio comedy to blockbuster action. His biggest role was as Rick O’Connell in the iconic mom franchise, then and now considered a successor to Indiana Jones. From bedazzled and monkey leg until Gods and monsters and Journey to the Center of the Earth,,Fraser has a decent career. Fraser’s main entry into the superhero world is in DC’s Doom Patrol series as the towering cyborg Cliff Steele. In batgirl, he is said to have appeared as the villain Firefly, a dangerous pyromaniac who wants to burn Gotham to the ground in revenge. There are so many great roles that Fraser could jump into, which would bring a new face and much-loved talent to the franchise’s continued expansion.
As the Marvel Cinematic Universe expands, new talent will have to be recruited to fill the constantly new roles. Modern Hollywood casting feels a bit like matching a relatively short list of household names with an ever-growing list of roles. As much as new talent deserves and demands a chance, some well-known greats working in Hollywood still feel a little underrepresented. Brendan Fraser is in the midst of a renaissance after years of public hiatus. The bad period in his career is due to a number of unpleasant things, including a sexual assault, a nasty divorce and ensuing depression. Fans were devastated to see one of their favorite ’90s icons lose their stride, and the resulting elation to see him back on top was hugely uplifting. A Marvel movie wouldn’t be the top of that mountain, but it would be another huge step forward for the actor.
the cancellation of batgirl was devastating to many people for many reasons. Brendan Fraser’s involvement and the fact that his big superhero film debut has now disappeared from the media is one such issue. Hot off the release of Fraser’s award-winning performance in The whale, fans are more excited than ever to see one of their favorite artists in a major blockbuster role. There’s never been a better time to capitalize on a competitor’s failures and recruit a great artist, and Marvel should act quickly before someone else picks up Brendan Fraser again.
