SCOUTING SEATTLE SOUNDERS

(12-16-3, 39 pts., 10th in Western Conference)

Seattle goes into the week and needs three points in a hard-fought Western Conference. The Sounders have regularly competed in the MLS Cup Playoffs, but are in danger of missing out for the first time in club history.

The Sounders have been unable to take points in close games this season and that is why they are below the playoff line. The Sounders were tied just three times all season, the second lowest total in the league behind Charlotte FC (two). 21 of Seattle’s 31 games were decided by one goal, with the Sounders winning 7-14-0 in those games.

Despite their struggles in close games, Seattle was fantastic at home. The Sounders have won nine games at Lumen Field, tying for second-best total in the Western Conference, and impressive results against strong sides have kept Seattle in the playoff call.

Seattle’s Raúl Ruidíaz is one of the MLS’ most dangerous and consistent goalscorers since signing with the Sounders in 2018. total for the fifth consecutive season.

Xavier Arreaga (Ecuador), Jordan Morris (United States), Alex Roldan (El Salvador), Raul Ruidíaz (Peru) and Nouhou Tolo (Cameroon) were called up to their respective national teams last weekend, which will affect their availability for Tuesday. match against Orange and Blue.

The Sounders cap things off against Sporting Kansas City and San Jose Earthquakes, who have a combined record of 17-29-17.

While FC Cincinnati cannot earn a playoff spot against Seattle tomorrow night, a win could allow them to secure a postseason spot against Chicago Fire FC on Saturday.

A win or draw against the Sounders would move the Orange and Blue to Orlando City and to fifth place in the Eastern Conference.

2 – This is only the second meeting between the sides and the only other meeting in FC Cincinnati’s inaugural season in the MLS, a 4-1 victory for the Sounders.

10 – FC Cincinnati’s current undefeated streak. It is the longest active run in MLS and equals the longest run this season (Portland Timbers, New England Revolution)

33 – Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei conceded 33 goals from outside the box dating back to the start of the 2017 campaign. It is the highest total for any goalkeeper in that period.

GOALS FOR BRENNER… – Brenner’s brace against Real Salt Lake was the Brazilian’s second goal in as many games. Brenner now accounts for five of the nine all-time multi-goal games in FC Cincinnati’s history.

AND HELP FOR LUCHO – Luciano Acosta continues to lead the MLS in assists. The wily midfielder has 18 assists going into Tuesday’s game and holds the club record for career assists (28). Acosta has received four assists in his last four league games and will look to increase his tally against the Sounders.

WILD WILD WEST – Tuesday’s meeting with Seattle will be the third game in a row against the Western Conference opposition. The Orange and Blues took victories against San Jose and Real Salt Lake earlier this month by scoring eight goals together, having conceded just one in their previous two games.

NOONAN BACK IN THE EMERALD CITY – Pat Noonan returns to Seattle to coach against a team he played on during his career. Noonan played for the Sounders from 2010-2011, making 21 appearances and scoring one goal. The Sounders will be the third club to face Noonan as FC Cincinnati (New England, Columbus Crew) manager.

NOONAN’S TAKE
Head Coach Pat Noonan during Tuesday’s game against Seattle
“This is a winning team, a winning culture, they know what it looks like in difficult moments to find results. They’ve been put in this position quite a few times over the years where whether it was injuries, international duties, whatever the reason, players were gone, they found ways to win matches. And that’s an honor for Brian and his staff to prepare each group to get out and win a match. We have to be very careful how we go into this match mentally as far as we understand that whoever we see on the field tomorrow it will be a very challenging match and a team that will be hungry to get a result. This is going to be a very difficult game and I think our guys at this stage, at this point, understand it. We are very aware of our opponent’s ability to put out a group to win a match and so it becomes a challenge.”
