The mission variety is arguably one of the best things about Saints Row. That’s something this series has always been good at. Some great main story missions may not surpass anything from the past, but they’re still great to play.
The only downside of the missions in Saints Row is that they cannot be replayed. Therefore, it is recommended that you create a save file before embarking on a mission. You never know when they’ll want to play something again. Of the many main story and side missions in this reboot, which ones stand out the most? There will be spoilers.
8 Observe and report
“Observe and Report” is an early mission in the game while players are still part of the Marshalls. The boss, along with JR, oversees a convoy of Los Panteros trucks. They are not intended to attack the enemy, but of course something goes wrong and players have to destroy things.
They will jump from truck to truck, taking out gang members and jumping away before things start to explode. A dust storm is also involved, and the climax has players pitted against a wannabe Wolverine.
7 Aggressive Recruitment
“Aggressive Recruiting” is like the in-game version of a Battle Royale experience, but without the multiplayer. Eli feels The Saints need fame, so The Boss volunteers to go to this killing island to broadcast their talents.
The ride there is on a haunted ferry, fitting for a Halloween DLC expansion. The island takes away weapons, but gives players more unique ones as a compromise, such as a giant Katana or a pistol that fires heat-seeking poisonous bullets. It’s a quick mission, but fun to cause chaos.
6 take me to church
“Take Me To Church” is the mission in which The Boss urges their crew to create The Saints. They find an abandoned church, occupied by city builders, so players must drive them off the terrain. Then they have to pick up the real estate agent for the property and scare them into submitting.
Do stunts enough in the desert and he will give up on the deed along with some other goodies. It ends in a big shooting, which is normal for Saints Row but the first two aspects make this a memorable mission.
5 the dust
“The Dustmoot” showcases Eli’s nerdy side as if the game wasn’t already emphasizing it enough at the time. Eli belongs to a LARP group in the region that is a cross between an RPG-like precipitation and Mad Max.
He needs to level up quickly, so he asks The Boss to help him in his quest. At that point, The Boss decides that Eli should not bow to any group in the game and that they should create their own kingdom. It’s a silly premise that would also be nice for a full-fledged DLC expansion.
4 The border
“The Frontier” is a stealth mission in which The Boss breaks into a Marshalls prison to free the Nahualli. He is the antagonist from the beginning of Saints Rowwhat a surprise to see him come back like this.
The mission begins with an epic rooftop descent, followed by a few guards sneaking past. It’s not a full-fledged stealth operation like a… Metal Gear Solid game. The mission would have been better if there were more cardboard boxes in it. However, a jailbreak is always a great scenario to put in a video game.
3 corporate retreat
“Corporate Retreat” was supposed to be a fun bonding mission for the team. The Boss allowed each member to choose one activity to do during their motorhome trip around the region. Unfortunately, rival gangs keep popping up and ruining their non-kill day.
The best part is that the Nahualli was invited to participate in the activities. His confusion over the whole process, like Kevin isn’t wearing a shirt, is priceless. The Nahualli turns out to be one of the coolest characters in the game through this hilarious mission. It also ends with a good shootout with one of the best weapons in Saints Row.
2 The great train robbery
Most of the game builds up to “The Great Train Robbery”, which indeed involves a train being robbed. Instead of riding horses like in a Wild West game similar to Red Dead Redemption 2players take hoverbikes.
They jump on the train and fight their way through goons and traps. There’s even a tank driving segment. The real icing on the cake is the confrontation with Sergio, the leader of Los Panteros. Let’s just say he gets his due, but in one of the most unexpected ways. Overall, it’s an exciting train ride full of explosions.
1 idol threat
“Idol Threat” is an earlier mission when The Saints first start, but it has everything. It starts with Kevin being kidnapped by his molding gang. This leads The Boss to follow him to a seedy bar where a good old-fashioned brawl erupts. Players then kidnap an Idol member while he’s in a Porta Potty and they drag him through the Idol camp while he yells for feces to get everywhere.
Then there is a climbing segment with diffusing bombs before Kevin is finally rescued. It’s a scene straight out Final Fantasy 7 Remake which is funny because one of the voice options for The Boss, Voice 2, is played by Erica Lindbeck, who also played Jessie in that game. That’s not the end of the mission though, but the climax won’t be spoiled. It’s a rad mission in Saints Row to be sure.
Saints Row was released on August 23, 2022 and is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
