So PAX West 2022 happened, and we couldn’t be more excited to get to Seattle, Washington and see what the show had to offer. This year, there were a lot of indie developers showing off their games for the first time. That said, we’d like to highlight a few titles that we think you should keep an eye out for.
To remind
Steam 2022 Release
To remind is a unique adventure game where memories can be twisted and manipulated. Players will primarily play flashbacks where their actions have direct consequences in the current timeline. This can lead to poor results, but you will find the best way to progress through trial and error. The game offers a faster option for multiple playthroughs to keep the story moving. However, we were only able to play with one character, but other characters have unique quirks to approach situations.
Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly

Let’s pour another cup for fans of storytelling adventure games. Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly continues the story of the coffee shop late at night with new drinks, characters and lo-fi beats. The story will continue to evolve the world as you craft drinks to perfection for your customers. If you haven’t already, but be sure to give the original Coffee Talk a playthrough.
Mina De Hollower

Mina de Hollower takes Castlevania and Bloodborne, mixes them together and delivers an old-fashioned adventure that we need in our lives. Each encounter in the game will test your skills as Mina uses different weapons to take out powerful enemies. Technically, she’s robbing graves, so can you really blame them? The 8-bit visuals don’t stop it from being a must-play title for modern gamers looking for a challenge on every screen.
Arcadian Atlas

A look at Arcadian Atlas will remind you of the countless hours you’ve invested in games like Final Fantasy Tactics. This adventure is full of character building and a rich story, making it hard to distance yourself. Our experience with the game has introduced us to a world divided by war. The game features grid-based combat, unit customization, and beautiful sprite work. If you’ve never heard of this game, we’re glad we were able to change that for you.
Tails: The Backbone Preludes

Tails: The Backbone Preludes will turn us all into furries. This noir adventure features a story built around four characters and fueled by the choices players make. In dialogue, players will make a selection that divides the story between different outcomes. The game is planned to be shorter than the original release so that the developers can focus on creating the beats of the story. Furthermore, choices matter this time and they will change the conclusion based on your actions.
Mato deviations
PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Series X, Switch, Steam release
Inspired by the movie Blade Runner and games like Persona, Mato deviations bleed style. Players will take on missions that take them through Mato as dual protagonists Doe and Gram. The two must work together to fight demonic abominations and investigate the cause of strange anomalies in the city. The combat system is turn-based, as players fight creatures and use Gram’s abilities. We’re excited to see how this game develops during development, but it’s got all our attention.
Cricket: Jae’s Really Quirky Game

Cricket: Jae’s Really Quirky Game is a game we’ve been looking forward to for a while. This animated adventure is inspired by EarthBound, but certainly stands out from the crowd of other RPGs. The characters go on an adventure to the moon, which is rumored to contain a cure that will fulfill every wish. Given that these characters are so young, we can expect some rather charming encounters full of imagination. Exploration also matters as players navigate through different environments and interact with others.

signalis easily made this list. Everything about this grim and mysterious adventure makes us long for more. The survival horror elements lead players through enemy-filled rooms after the main character, Elster, wakes up from a long sleep in search of answers. The gameplay is full of thrills as players have to manage scarce resources and complete puzzles to progress. If that’s not enough, one look at the design of the characters and the world will catapult this game as a must-play this Halloween.
Melatonin
Switch, Steam 2022
Melatonin is a dreamy rhythm game that aims to tell a captivating story as you make your way through each of the stages. Your performance will be rated, unlocking later levels, but I nodded my head to the beat no matter how many times I had to try again. Aside from the tunes, the game offers a beautiful color palette of soft colors and whimsical situations. Still, there’s something to be said about the main character that we’d love to learn more about in the later levels. Melatonin also comes with an added challenge, but a little practice will get you on the right track in no time.
