It is to be expected that the main character of Archer, Sterling Archer, has the best quotes in the series. Sterling Archer has some great lines, be it a slogan, one-liner or a comeback. Sterling’s best quotes are plentiful, if not a little rude. However, the rudeness is to be expected if one remembers it Archer is an animated comedy for adults, and these quotes all tend to be a show that’s too inappropriate for kids.
As the leading and deadliest spy, Sterling Archer is certainly full of himself. He’s beaming, he’s selfish, he’s confident, all the negative things a proud person can be. Except, Sterling Archer more than makes up for it with his brilliant quotes.
9 “I’ll rub sand in your dead little eyes.”
Few characters endure the torment and endure the torment that Sterling Archer inflicts on his butler. Poor Woodhouse is the butt of many jokes and the subject of many of Sterling’s frustrations. In one such instance, Sterling’s insults and threats to Woodhouse stand out from the crowd.
Since Sterling was raised by Woodhouse, it makes his treatment of him even more horrific, but it’s still funny. The idea that Woodhouse has “dead little eyes” is ridiculous, but the threat of Sterling rubbing sand in them is just outrageous.
8 “That’s how you get ants.”
One of the many running gags in Archer is when one of the characters will say, “That’s how you get ants.” This line has been spoken by pretty much the entire cast, but some of the best deliveries are from Sterling, who seems extremely frustrated every time he sees a situation where ants can get involved.
It is one of the longest running jokes on the show and was first introduced in the first episode of the first season. It usually revolves around the general untidyness of the offices and the frequent spillage of food and drink, spoken of by both Sterling and Malory. Like mother like son!
7 “I command this airboat!”
Part of the charm of this quote comes from the fact that Sterling has achieved a lifelong goal of saying it. Finally Sterling had the opportunity to utter the phrase, “I command this airboat!” Partly successful, mainly because he aimed a shotgun at the owner’s face.
Only Sterling could pull off such a stunt and somehow make a quote about an airboat sound somewhat cool. The shotgun sure helps. It’s one of several quotes from Sterling that the public is trying to replicate in real life, or waiting for the opportunity to do so.
6 “Baboo!”
Nothing seemed to excite Sterling more than when he discovered that his colleague and friend Cheryl had a pet ocelot. He had never seen an ocelot before, and to learn that Cheryl had bought an ocelot and named it Babou was an element of joy in Sterling’s life. Sterling always repeats Babou’s name, as if the little ocelot were a celebrity who graces Sterling with a visit.
Despite Sterling’s adoration for Babou and the way he talks to him like a human, Babou is still an ocelot and is no stranger to biting, clawing and trying to eat Sterling. Still, Sterling continues to try to play with Babou.
5 “I’m afraid if I stop drinking all at once, the cumulative hangover will literally kill me.”
To some, this quote from Sterling may seem quite familiar. Although, hopefully, the audience of Archer don’t find the deadly alcoholism of Sterling and Malory Archer that recognizable. It’s a fun quote that showcases Sterling’s smart and quick wit, who claims that if he ever stops drinking, it’s more than likely that he will die of alcohol poisoning.
It’s a quote that perfectly sums up how much Sterling Archer drinks, and his excuse as to why he’ll go on day after day. Many who enjoy a nice drink, or a terrible hangover for the next day, can use this Sterling quote.
4 “Does Internet Porn Know You’re Cheating?”
One of the many horrible comments made against Cyril Figgis, but no one can deny it’s a good one. There are plenty of cold burns that the characters in Archer offer one of their own, Cyril Figgis. This burn is particularly hot, because it is a rather good insult, which no one can deny.
It’s always fun to see one of the characters use their humor against Cyril, who is often unphased or blatantly annoyed by the comments made to him. He’s definitely the punching bag of the group, and Sterling is definitely taking advantage of that.
3 “Lana. lana. LANAAAAAAAAAA.”
If Sterling likes to annoy anyone more than Cyril, it’s his love interest, Lana. Lana probably knows Sterling better than anyone but his mother and butler. However, what Lana still doesn’t know is how far he will go to get under her skin. Lana is very hot-tempered and as soon as Sterling yells “LANAAAA”. She loses it, and he just laughs, knowing he won.
It’s always funny when Sterling annoys Lana, especially considering they have a kid together. Sterling certainly has a knack for murder, espionage and annoying Lana Kane.
2 “Phrasing.”
Another recurring joke involved with the Archer series is that a character often says something compromising, or can sound somewhat sexual in nature unless explained. Sterling, who has such a dirty mind, will often interrupt and say “phrase” to indicate to everyone in the room that people were speaking sexually.
It can seem quite annoying to other characters, as Sterling will see almost every sentence with an innuendo. However, it doesn’t stop other characters from actually using this quote themselves.
1 “Danger zone.”
Sterling Archer likes a few things, but Kenny Loggins’ 1986 song, Danger Zone, is definitely high on that list. Sterling often uses the song title to annoy Lana Kane, making her aware of the underlined sexual tension between the two. He also uses it when there is obvious danger, and a frequent running gag that involves Lana Kane.
There’s always a laugh to be had when Sterling annoys Lana, and his adoration for the phrase “danger zone” is certainly one of the funnier. Especially if he chuckles before saying it, or even whispers it in her ear.
Archer is available on Hulu and Amazon Prime
