Aquadine is a beautiful visual novel in which most of the story is quite simple and players will have an immersive story experience when playing this game. I got the chance to check out Aquadine from SoftColors, and I must say it was a lot of fun playing with it, I knew from the start that I would enjoy a good story. My fellow writer Kevin Austin has written a great review for the game from his perspective. In my review, we dive into the town of Aquadine and the characters we will meet.
The story of ancient Aquadine
Long ago there was a devastating drought that caused the land to crack, rivers to run dry and even the well to run dry. As a result, the land was unusable for growing crops and livestock began to dwindle. This turned into a major disaster for humanity and without any means of survival they turn to the sea god Levis. The god granted them their wish, but on one condition that more people might coexist peacefully with them.
However, many decades passed and they lived together peacefully, but meerfolk was still discriminated against for being abnormal. In response, Levios created an underwater kingdom known as Ancient Auadine to protect the merfolk. Until it ceases to exist.
Contemporary Aquadine
Aquadine is a very special city where it could be the most ideal tourist destination where one can enjoy and enjoy the beautiful landscape and culture. A city rich in culture but also mythology brings together people from all parts and at the same time becomes the center of the game.
The game focuses on a charming young man with blue beautiful eyes that are almost like the eye of the ocean. Ciel loves to be a gondolier and he knows that his skills are always appreciated by everyone, but he knows that he is nowhere on the same level as someone unrivaled long ago, both in singing, rowing and making every tourist fall in love with the city of Aquadine. That person is Torrie.
Something to know Ciel was Torrie’s son, and this was his secret identity, his real name is Robin. He took on this new identity because he wanted to support his family but at the same time didn’t want tourists to know he was Torrie’s son and tarnish his mother’s name. This was his new identity. When Robin’s father died in a storm at sea long ago, his mother Torrie took care of the family until she fell ill, prompting Robin to take her place to support the family.
Torrie is also afflicted with a disease that no doctor can understand and for which there was no cure.
One day he was lured by someone who sang the song he had learned from his mother and here he met the mermaid for the first time.
Let’s meet the characters:
Each of the main characters we will meet is unique with their own story, personality and speech for each. Each character is connected in some way and whatever character path we take, each character is a piece of the puzzle contributing to that path. Because everyone is connected, players will experience four different story character journeys that not only know more about the character but also teach you a life lesson by learning from them, but by completing all four stories you can discover the true ending of Unlock Aquadine.
Ciel (Robin)
Ciel turns out to be a handsome and hardworking person who works as a gondolier. Almost a role model for everyone and one thing that everyone loves is his amazing singing voice. Ciel is the secret identity and real name is Robin and is the son of Torrie who was once the most famous gondoliers long ago.
Diana
Robin’s cheerful friend, like most girls, is deeply in love with Ciel. She currently works with her mother in a famous cafe. Diana always seems to put a smile on her face and lives her life for the best every day. Also, she is related to Cameron as a cousin.
Cameron
Robin’s best friend and a character I love who always supported you. who really likes martial arts and strives for the stars in his life. He is that nudge that a person needs to achieve her goals and do something in their life. He is that person you want in your circle to cheer everyone up and bring a spark of life and encouragement.
Anya
Anya is a character who is almost the center of the group, always gets carried away by Diana and she is very shy but also cute. She’s someone you think lives in her little bubble where she questions the reason for everything.
Elisabeth
A famous singer from a nearby town who recently moved to Aquadine with her father and butler in hopes of recovering from her past life that marked a break in her singing career. She is a very sweet and caring girl who is loved by everyone.
Gameplay
The game doesn’t have much that a player has to do, but it is more focused on the story that is going on, players will be drawn into a deeper understanding of the story and the many secrets behind it. In the beginning, when Ciel meets the mermaid for the first time, it is just the beginning of the mystery and the mermaid also has secrets. There is a lot going on in the game and the many memorable scenes you will find. Each character has their struggles and goals, but in the end they are all connected. Aquadine is a visual novel game I like because the more I get into the story and meet each character, the more questions I have and want to know what part they have in the city Aquadine.
Artwork and sounds of the game
The game doesn’t matter what is visually beautiful, the illustrations are not only for each character, but the background is great too. You get to see not only the different outfits, but also the many expressions of each character in many scenes. The game looks like you are watching an anime show and you can see that the artist did a great job creating a unique character based on their personality.
Sound is a huge part of any visual novel, and Aquadine does a great job with that, not only are there so many different musical compositions for all the different scenes that the players will visit. The opening menu to the credits is a masterpiece, music and sounds are another language that puts us on a rollercoaster of emotions not only with the story but also with each character. One thing I always enjoy the most is music, because even if I can’t see what’s going on, just listening to the sound of the game allows me to know what’s happening.

Overview
Aquadine is an immersive visual novel experience with beautiful characters and beautiful art style. Each character in the game has their own story to tell that leads players on an emotional journey to understand themselves, but they are also all connected in a way that reveals the true story of Aquadine. Followed by a great soundtrack that, together with the artwork, is a breath of fresh air. I can say that everyone will enjoy this game just like me because once you are curious about something it is hard to get away and those are the secrets to Aquadine it’s all about.
