Ali Al Baqali, Chief Executive Officer of Aluminum Bahrain BSC (Alba), will lead the company’s delegation at Fastmarkets’ International Aluminum 2022 conference taking place September 13-15, 2022 at the InterContinental Barcelona, ​​Spain.

Al Baqali participated as a keynote speaker along with other industry leaders in the Executive Panel Discussion on September 14, where he highlighted the various initiatives under Alba’s ESG roadmap to support Bahrain’s goals of achieving net zero emissions by 2060 , including the addition of Block 4 to Power Station 5 that will help reduce the company’s overall GHG emissions. The panel also discussed evolving market dynamics, regional industry prospects and strategic considerations for investing in a low-carbon world.

Alba’s delegation to the event included Chief Supply Officer Waleed Tamimi, Director Marketing Boris Santosi, along with officials from Alba’s Sales Office in Zurich, Switzerland.

Alba Power Station 5 Block 4 Expansion Project

Alba Power Station 5 (PS5) Block 4 is a Combined Cycle Power Plant that is an extension of the existing PS5.

PS5 Block 4 Project is the addition of a fourth block with a similar 1:1:1 configuration with class J gas turbine technology and with a minimum ISO nominal rating of 680.9 MW and including connection to the existing 220 kV substation. The efficiency of this combined cycle power plant is much higher than the combined cycle power plants of PS3 and PS4. Upon completion of the PS5 Block 4 Expansion Project, PS5 nameplate capacity will increase from 1,800 MW to 2,481 MW.

The Mitsubishi Power & SEPCOIII consortium will be responsible for the design, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of Block 4. The commercial operations of PS5 Block 4 are expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2024.

Alba external complaint mechanism

Alba’s external complaints mechanism receives and facilitates the resolution of concerns and grievances from all affected communities about Alba’s environmental and social (E&S) performance. External complaints about Alba’s E&S performance can be registered through the Alba Integrity Line – an independently operated confidential hotline for multilingual reporting – via a toll-free telephone system or via the intranet 24 hours a day.

Alba response to COVID-19 pandemic

Alba’s response strategy to COVID-19 was initiated in January 2020 in accordance with the guidelines of the Bahrain National Taskforce for Combating Coronavirus (COVID-19). The company was able to operate safely through 2021 thanks to its agile workforce – employees and contractor staff.
