The last of us part 1 is an excellent updated release of one of the greatest PlayStation games of all time. The game features Joel and Ellie’s harrowing journey as they try to come up with a cure for the plague that has absolutely devastated the world. In their travels, they will face off against hordes of the infected, deal with their own differences, and also fight the deranged members of their own relatives.

Naughty Dog has done a fantastic job in this game and its remake, paying attention to detail throughout The last of us be exemplary. It’s clear a lot of love has gone into the game, with The last of us part 1 with various new and old Easter eggs that fans love to discover.

10 A tribute to Daniel Kinnard

Daniel Kinnard was one of the developers at Naughty Dog who died while developing The last of us part 1. With a nice touch that has been widely appreciated by fans since its appearance, Naughty Dog has added a tribute to the developer in their game.

At the ranch where Joel and Tommy search for Ellie, players can find in one of the rooms a baseball poster featuring Daniel Kinnard. It’s a subtle and moving tribute to a developer who clearly put a lot of time and effort into developing The last of us part 1.

9 Ellie’s skins have countless references to other PlayStation Exclusives

The last of us part 1 contains different skins for the two main characters that can be purchased with points. While players must complete the game at least once to get the most out of these skins, it’s well worth the wait.

The most notable skins are the ones that Ellie can wear. There are a number of t-shirts with different PlayStation IPs that can indeed give longtime fans a pretty tough nostalgic journey.


8 One of Ellie’s outfits is a tribute to Bill

Not all of Ellie’s outfits are a tribute to game-related media. One of her outfits is even a bright yellow jumpsuit that is a reference to one of Tarantino’s greatest movies.

Obviously, this outfit should resemble that of The Bride in Kill Bill. Considering how much of a badass Ellie becomes by the end of the game, it’s easy to see why this outfit suits her quite a bit.

7 The game features an unknown movie starring Justin Bieber

There are several cheeky Easter eggs in it The last of us those are pretty easy to miss. Even a rather unique movie name shown multiple times in the game can be missed if players aren’t thorough with all the environmental details present in the game.

There are several copies of The Daily Metro newspaper scattered throughout the game. The main headline in these copies is “Uncharted 13: A Lush Movie – Justin Bieber as Drake”.

6 Several PlayStation 3s present throughout the game

Since the PlayStation 3 was the console where The last of us first appeared, it only makes sense that this console would be represented multiple times in the game. This can be seen from the many inclusions of this system in the game at various points.

The first instance of this console’s appearance is in Joel and Sarah’s house. The second time players will be able to see this console is in Larry’s TV & Stereo, a store that players may encounter as Ellie after they manage to escape David.


5 Multiple references to the studio that made the game itself

Naughty Dog doesn’t shy away from mentioning their own studio several times in the game too! These usually appear in Pittsburgh, where players can find a poster with the official The last of us Naughty Dog’s website, which also features a mouse pad with this logo later in the game.

There is also a cheeky pet shop called Faithful Dog in the game. Players can come across this shop after escaping David, which is a pretty neat shot indeed.

4 A Detailed Version of Clementine’s House from Telltale’s The Walking Dead

The last of us and Telltale’s The living Dead were two of the most popular story-heavy zombie games released around the same time, with The last of us come a year later. So it’s great to see Naughty Dog paying tribute to this brilliant adventure game.

As they roam the game world with Bill, players will explore a house that looks similar to the one Lee Clementine lived in at the start of the game. The living Dead. It’s a clever homage, with the house looking even more dilapidated and true to its inspiration in The last of us part 1.

3 Hugs from Nathan Drake, Jak and Daxter

The segment where the player meets sibling duo Henry and Sam makes for one of the most memorable moments in the entire game. There is also an Easter egg that players may be able to notice immediately after meeting these two characters.

In a room in Serenity Apartments, players can find plush toys from Jak & Daxter on a dresser and one from Nathan Drake on the bed. The remake makes a small addition here by adding a Nathan Drake plush toy on the dresser as well.

2 O’Sullivan’s Pub is like the pub where Uncharted 3 begins

The third not mapped game has a pretty good and action packed opening in which both Nathan and Sully engage in a bar fight. People who played The last of us part 1 you may have noticed that there is a dilapidated pub in the game that looks like this Uncharted 3 also started!

This place is called O’Sullivan’s Pub, which in itself is again a reference to Victor “Sully” Sullivan. This was one of the more popular Easter eggs that many fans noticed in the original game as well.

1 The last level hides a clever message from the player

After Joel decides to kill all the Fireflies and save Ellie, the player must go through the Firefly hospital and kill anyone who finds in Joel’s way. It’s a brutal final level in a game that skillfully handles the human emotions people feel and how it transcends the need to make sacrifices for the greater good.

There are several eye charts present in the game, one of which has quite an interesting message for the player. It says “RUN YOU R ALMOST NOT ON IT!!”, which really indicates that the player is at the end of their blood-soaked journey.
