When patrolling dungeons Cult of the Lamb, random encounters with charming critters will occasionally unlock new areas on the map designed to aid the cult’s expansion. For example, a gold board can be found in Silk Cradle, the fourth unlockable zone that the player can battle through. Once this sign is found, it says “Midas’ Cave will be unlocked in seven days”, but what this location has to offer is up to the player to discover.
Midas’ Cave is one of many unlockable areas outside the cult within Cult of the Lamb, but it is one of the vaguest in its purpose. When visiting, a new character briefly explains each little part of the map, but something about their attitude is somewhat suspicious. Since there are few details, it is up to the player to explore and discover the quirks of the cave. This location offers various activities that can benefit the player and their cult, but they come with a price.
5 Buy decorations for the cult
Between defeating heretics and indoctrinating new followers, beautifying the cult is one of Cult of the Lamb‘s most charming offering. While players will find lots of decoration blueprints as they travel through different zones, several shops offer prints for sale – and if a few boxes are missing in a collection, this is the best way to find them.
Midas’ Cave houses up to three different decorations on each visit, and occasionally these items are a little rarer than those found on a dungeon crawl. But next to this rarity comes a hefty price tag. If there’s one thing to note about Midas’ Cave, they don’t hold back from making everything overpriced.
4 Buy Tarot Cards
Tarot cards are a valuable asset to any dungeon crawler inside Cult of the Lamb. They can help any journey no matter how difficult the final boss is. Like blueprints for decorations, they can be collected on any journey, but having a store to buy missing items from the collection is incredibly useful.
The tarot shop in Midas’ cave is very similar to the decoration shop layout; a maximum of three tickets are for sale on each visit. They also vary in price and are occasionally rarer than the cards found during a dungeon run. Collecting tarot cards does not immediately equip them, but increases the chance of finding that card in one of the heretical zones. If the player has unlocked the ability to get four tarot cards at the beginning of a dungeon, they cannot visit the tarot seller during a run, but these cards can appear at the beginning.
3 Leave donations
Gold bars are one of Cult of the LambThe most challenging items are available, so it’s hard to sacrifice them without knowing what for. They require a selection of items and a refinery before they can be made, and like most things, they come at a price. To make gold bars it takes ten coins and to make coins the player needs some gold nuggets so in the end it all comes down to money. Which the locals of Midas Cave are quick to emphasize. In the center of the area is a small well that immediately demands ten gold bars, but there is no explanation for what the player gets in return.
Leaving a few donations won’t bring you any rewards. Even after hours of making gold bars in a refinery, Midas is quick to tell the player that he would have accepted half, and the player is bad at negotiating. After this rich donation, the well will demand coins, followed by more gold. It’s hard to feel that donating to this resource is a good cause as the only reward the player receives seems to be a humiliating conversation with Midas.
2 Buy dedication
Even though any busy cult will have a hearty devotion, sometimes a little extra goes a long way. If a player is struggling to unlock a Divine Inspiration and continue to build a higher quality of life with their cult, it is extremely useful to have access to buyable Devotion. While materials are being cultivated, cult members may not spend their time worshiping, so it is helpful to have access to a consistent source.
However, the method of purchasing this worship can be confusing to master. Once the player interacts with the statue, Midas explains that this worship is cheaper if the Lamb doesn’t need it, but as more is bought, the price increases. But the longer it goes without a sale, the price falls again. The best way to use this feature is to buy as much as you can and then let the statue sit for a few days to make sure it falls back to its original price.
1 Sacrifice followers for pieces of a dark talisman
The ease of sacrificing followers depends entirely on how developed and bubbly a player’s cult is. If there are few followers, one may have to be released into the hands of Midas, leaving a bug-shaped hole in the cult. But if there are a few left, this method of getting a Dark Talisman is more accessible than any other unlockable area in Cult of the Lamb.
Instead of collecting Eye of Witness or collecting a selection of hard-to-catch fish, Midas’ Cave allows the player to walk to the top of the map, select a follower and get a piece of the talisman. After sacrificing four followers, Midas will stop donating fragments of the dark talisman. However, collecting four parts results in the ability to unlock a fleece, which can aid the player in his journey by defeating heretics with different buffs and abilities.
