Well, it’s the first weekend of August, which means most students have less than a month to go back to college. But this week’s big release, Two Point Campus, now offers the thrill of the quad, for college-age and college-age at heart. And since the higher ed themed management sim is on Xbox Game Pass, it’s significantly cheaper than the real thing.

Two Point Campus sees some members of TheGamer staff take a trip down memory lane, while others steer clear of their alma maters with MultiVersus, Judgment, Into the Breach, and God of War 3 Remastered.

I am traveling back to my home state of Michigan this weekend for my niece’s first birthday. So when I’m not eating cake and squeezing baby cheeks, I play some wearable stuff. That means Into the Breach on my phone, OlliOlli World on Switch, and (I’m serious this time) some solid hours in Triangle Strategy.

As an archaeologist by trade and training, I’ve spent most of the past few decades on college campuses, which means when I have a little spare time, you’d think I’d be doing it somewhere else. Well, you’d be wrong. This weekend I’m diving into Two Point Campus. I’ve never been much into management games, but I really liked the previous installment in the franchise, Two Point Hospital. Something about the folly of it all really sold the experience for me. I’ve only taken the quickest glances and I’m not quite ready to say for sure, but I can see that Two Point Campus will click with me. Anyway, I’m looking forward to wandering the quadrangles after recreating my alma mater, the University of Chicago. Time for class.

I’ve started using these weekly columns to document my journey through the Yakuza series. When I started 0 backup after a long hiatus thanks to the return to Xbox Game Pass, I didn’t expect to be plowing through game after game week after week, but I can’t put them down. Now I’m on to Judgment, the private detective spin-off that sees you unmask the serial killer plaguing Kamurocho. It’s my favorite so far, tied with 0, with a stud of a lead and an intriguing mystery that stays strong with every spin. Let’s hope the landing sticks.

I’m still navigating a few games that I can’t talk about because I’m a super cool games journalist – but other than that I’ve delved into a few older titles in addition to all the hip modern stuff. Instead of replaying the reboot prior to Ragnarok, I jumped into God of War 3 Remastered and was floored by the gorgeous visuals and massive amounts of cleavage. This series used to be so different, but it’s still so damn fun to play. Additionally, I’ve delved deeper into Xenoblade Chronicles 3 while clearing up side missions and starting to make a dent in the endgame. It’s all super tough bosses and side missions for this girl, and I’m having a blast.

I’m in MultiVersus, honey. I’ve become the thing I hated the most – I think I love IP now. I want Warner Bros. ruins the sanctity of all his movies just to entertain me with a fighting game. The Matrix is one of the most profound experiences I’ve ever had watching a movie, so naturally I really want Neo to be punched in the face by Bugs Bunny. I want Casablanca in MultiVersus. I’m desperately looking for which Marilyn Monroe characters WB owns so I can pair Marilyn and Harley Quinn. I could even buy a MultiVersus pin.

Seriously, something is up in PowerWash Simulator. Yes, I could spend this week’s entry here praising how satisfying the game is still feels more than 80 hours in. But damn it, the plot has gotten thicker. Apparently it’s not just the mayor’s cat that is missing. All cats in Muckingham are missing. And the mayor would be in cahoots with this eccentric billionaire who not only owns a huge drilling machine for dubious tunneling purposes, but also a jet plane. laser mounted. Oh, and the gnomes are still following me. While I was washing the mayor’s yacht, no fewer than five were staring at me from behind some trees. I’m just a simple PowerWasher! What do they want from me?!

Rhiannon Bevan, Mass Effect Legendary Edition

Feeling a little sorry for it, I recently dug out my PS4 to play some older games that I had left behind when I got my Xbox Series S. And damn, it’s hard to believe that Mass Effect Legendary Edition came out on the last generation. Playing Mass Effect 2 in silky smooth 60 FPS goodness is such a treat, so much so that I’ve been drinking it nonstop and getting close to the suicide mission already. I managed to forget all the right options, so wish me (and my very unfortunate crew) the best of luck!

It’s time to return to the Sea of Thieves with my little brother. He is grinding hard now that school is out and he is almost 100% better than I am, or ever will be. A terrifying thought, as I watch him cut single-handedly through a team of four players. What have I created? Who is this sea demon child? SoT is a brilliant game and I can’t wait to spend a rainy Sunday playing tunes on the waves.

I just finished reviewing Two Point Campus which would usually mean wanting to rest. Even though I’ve been playing for over a week in a row, in addition to a few other titles, I’m still eager to play more. I have knights to train, wizards to control and clowns to laugh at. There are also many more sandbox campuses calling me. That should keep me busy for a while.
