Ultrakill is a first-person shooter published by New Blood Interactive. This FPS hopes to combine fast-paced combat with ultra-violent carnage, giving a nod to its inspiration from retro-styled first-person shooters like earthquake and demise. The retro graphics also add to this nostalgia that players face as they take on a variety of enemies as they descend further into hell.
Hoping to survive the ferocity of the rival levels Dante’s layers of hell, players have a wide variety of weapons to use, ranging from six different categories, from revolvers to even their bare hands. With so many to choose from, it’s hard to decide which ones are best for a rampage.
10 Pump Charge Shotgun
As the green variant of the shotgun, players can purchase this version of the weapon from the store for 12,500p once they first pick up the Core Eject Shotgun. This double-barreled pump action rifle may not seem like much at first glance, but in this brutal first-person shooter, shotguns are by far one of the best weapons to equip because of how fast they can take down an enemy.
Players can hit a target for a decent amount of damage or pump the shotgun, which reduces the accuracy of the shot and greatly increases the damage. This lack of accuracy isn’t something players will regret, as they’ll mostly be hitting at close range while using the Pump Charge in the first place.
9 Attractor Nail Gun
As a machine gun that may be the fastest weapon in the game, the Attractor Nailgun will be unlocked by players quickly. As the blue variant of the Nailgun, a player will find this weapon when he completes the “Heart of The Sunrise” level.
The beauty of this weapon is not only the amount of damage it can cause when hitting all the silver spikes, but the alternative fire choice of shooting with a spike magnet makes for some entertaining tactics. By firing a spike magnet at the ground, all spiked spikes will spin around its location, allowing the player to set up spike traps that hurt the enemy for a significant amount of damage.
8 knuckle blaster
Aside from guns, even a well-upgraded fist can be a great weapon while trying to complete levels in Ultrakill. Unlike the other weapons on the list so far, a player must defeat a boss before unlocking the red variant of the arm. This means that you must defeat V2 during the “Clair De Lune” level.
This arm is incredibly powerful because it hits enemies hard. Not only does this deal massive damage, but it can also push back enemies that get too close. However, players can’t parry with this arm, so they better prepare for some hits.
7 Malicious Railcannon
Players may have to wait a little longer for this weapon, but that doesn’t stop it from being by far one of the best rail cannons out there. After unlocking the electric rail cannon during the “Death At 20,000 Volts” level, players can purchase the red variant for 100,000 pence from the shop.
A single beam from this weapon causes a large explosion that destroys all enemies in its path, but it does have a 16-second cooldown that prevents some players from using it, especially given the fast-paced combat.
6 Overheated nail gun
After unlocking the Attractor Nailgun, players can purchase the green variant of the gun from the shop for 25,000 pence. Compared to other purchased weapons on the list, this is by far one of the cheapest available.
While the Attractor Nailgun was fast, the Overheat Nailgun is even faster, as the alternate fire mode allows the player to shoot even more nails in a quick burst. However, this can be very dangerous as it means the weapon will use up one of its heatsinks, which will take longer to charge the weapon.
5 Piercer Revolver
It’s surprising to see that while the Piercer Revolver is the first weapon players will unlock during Ultrakill, it somehow manages to be one of the best weapons in the entire game. While it doesn’t deal as much damage as the other weapons and doesn’t fire as fast, this alternate fire mode revolver can really excel.
The Piercer Revolver can be charged to fire a three-beam shot that can penetrate multiple enemies and deal heavy damage to numerous enemies in a room. This means that players can line up shots to make the best combos and earn a decent amount of style.
4 Kern Eject Shotgun
Since the first shotgun players will unlock, the Core Eject Shotgun can be obtained after defeating the first stage of the boss’ Swordmachine during the “Double Down” level. After getting their hands on this weapon, many players will feel unstoppable, and it’s true.
As the name Core Eject suggests, the shotgun can be used as it should be to hit enemies at close range with a decent amount of damage. Players also have the choice to quickly remove the shotgun core and throw it at their opponent to use as a grenade.
3 Feedbacker
Players often forget that their most useful weapon is their own bare hands, and this is no different for Ultrakill. Feedbacker is available to players from the moment the game is launched, the damage is by far the worst if you only take one hit, but that’s not why this blue variant of the arm is so useful.
Parry is an essential mechanic when trying to survive against enemies. Feedbacker allows the player to strike back at the enemy and send any projectile they tried to directly send the player back with more damage.
2 Electric Rail Gun
Maximize destruction with the Electric Rail Cannon. As mentioned, this weapon can be unlocked during the “Death At 20,000 Volts” level, and since then players will have a weapon that is sure to disintegrate all their enemies.
Similar to the Piercer Revolver’s tactics, the beam fired by the electric rail cannon can pierce all enemies in its path. This again makes this Railcannon a brilliant option for lining up enemies and shooting them all through for brutal and quick kills.
1 Sniper Revolver
Of all the weapons available to players in Ultrakill, the Marksman Revolver is not only one of the most interesting weapons available, but also one of the best that requires a fair amount of skill to use. This revolver can be purchased from the store for 7,500 pence after unlocking the Piercer Revolver during the first level of the game.
It does a similar amount of damage to the blue variant, but the alternate shooting option allows the player to throw a coin in the air. If they can successfully fire the coin while it is in the air, the coin will automatically hit an enemy on one of the weak spots, allowing the player to deal even more damage.
Ultrakill is currently available on PC through Early Access.
