Retreat to Enen is a immersive open world survival game developed by Head West and published by Freedom Games. The game features a futuristic world where players are stranded on an island to test their skills. Once you’ve proven you’re worthy, you’ll be called back to Ones.
After the initial cutscenes, the game leaves you in the wild to discover and explore the world around you that lurks with dangers, and in the good old survival mode, you gotta find a way to stay alive while battling the weather and your body at the same time.
Look around with a sharp eye
While it’s a basic tip to take a good look around any game, it becomes even more important when you play Retreat To Enen. The game is very immersive and you don’t get anything for free. You can go past an important item and miss it completely without even realizing it.
Even basic materials such as wood, stone or clay are difficult to recognize in a green environment. This makes it very important to keep your perspective to the ground so that each interactive item lights up when it is in the center of your screen.
There is a little trick to identifying items on the ground in the game. When the center of your screen is around an item on the floor, you will get a small white reticle on your screen. Look in that direction when you get it, and you’ll find something useful.
Quantum control should be used sparingly
Aside from the three usual stats at the bottom right of your screen, there’s a fourth called Quantum Control. This is a kind of energy that is used in everything you do, including just walking or running. Certain items in the game require you to activate Quantum Control, which will deplete this bar even faster.
If you find blue orbs on the map, you can meditate on this spot to get Quantum Control back. If this bar runs out, you can’t sprint or interact with any of these things in the game.
In addition to making sure you disable Quantum Control when it’s not in use, you can use it more efficiently by: turn it off as soon as you start an animation such as interaction with dead animals.
Be aware of the lurking dangers
Items you can pick up aren’t the only things that get immersed in the world of Retreat To Enen. One of the the most difficult hazards to spot in the game are snakes. These are dark-colored animals found in grassy areas, making it impossible to locate them until you’re close.
Aside from doing a little damage, a bite of these sneaky buggers can also apply the poison effect that can be considerably hard to get rid of in the early game. If you do get this effect, you can get rid of it by making an Antidote in the Cooking Pot.
You can easily find your home
No matter how far you venture, you can always find your way back to your spawn using the home symbol that is displayed on the screen. So it’s perfect if you make your first base near this area so that you can find it easily and don’t get lost in this vast world.
Besides the home icon, you have two more icons on the screen, which are the spots that will allow you to move to the next area, once you unlock it. However, these can be hard to spot when you’re at the beach, so try to go to a grassy area to find it.
Save the game in your base tent
Retreat To Ones does NOT save automatically. To save the game early on, you need to go to your base tent and hold the interact button. This will take you to the Save screen where you can choose a slot you want to save on.
After saving you can exit the game via the menu. If you stop without saving, the game starts at your last save point, and you lose all your progress.
Make sure you turn off the campfire
The game will ask you at the start to make a campfire that requires a few basic ingredients. Further, you can put a cooking pot on ityou can cook items that eliminate the negative effects and increase your hunger, thirst and health bar.
It’s important to turn off the campfire after you’re done with it because if you keep it going, you’ll use up fuel that can quickly flow through your Wood. The same goes for ovens and smokers. It can be a bit difficult to turn off the campfire because sometimes the prompt messes with the Cooking Pot prompt.
You can find everything on your watch
There are two types of menus in the game. First, you can just press Esc to pause the game and change your settings or go to the desktop. You can Press Tab on PC to access your watch that is the second and most important menu in the game.
Here you can find all your craft recipes, building supplies, inventory and food items. Apart from that, you can also check the current time of day, which can be useful as you have to go to sleep around 7:00 PM at the start of the game to avoid getting too cold.
Finally, you can look at all the things you unlock when you level up in the game by interacting with any ruins.
Main goal
When you start the game, much of your concentration will be focused on getting through the day without passing out from hunger or thirst. But, there is another goal that players must complete to move to another area.
There are three ruins scattered across each separate area in the game (three areas in total). To advance to the next area, you must: find these ruins and go there while it is still morning. Here you’ll find the same blue areas you use to get Quantum Control back, except they’re yellow.
You have to meditate in all these ruins for a certain amount of time to unlock the next area, and so on until you reach the last one.
Keep an eye on your health
In the beginning, the game will ask you to drink water from ponds because they make you think it is fresh water. Unfortunately, there is a chance that you negative effect while drinking this water that will drain your health slowly.
likewise, the poison also depletes your health and with the number of hazards present in the game, it can be quite difficult to keep up with your health. Furthermore, you also lose your health if you are hungry or too thirsty.
The game will warn you when your health is too low but if you are caught far away and there is no way to get rid of the negative effects, there is nothing you can do about it. So it’s a good idea to check your health, food and water bars at the bottom.
One of the best ways to get healthy again is to eat Large Cooked Meat. This could be obtained from chickens and pigs after you kill them with a spear or a bow. Raw meat can be cooked on an oven that you can craft using the crafting menu in the Survival tab.
If you eat cooked meat when you already have a negative effect (this can also be seen at the bottom right of your screen), you get no health and waste the meat just getting your food bar up. Make sure you get rid of the effect first.
