How does saving game data work in Genshin Impact?

Genshin is an action-adventure open world title. Any progress in the game is automatically saved immediately.

With autosave and cross-platform support, Genshin allows users to connect and link other accounts so they can log in and play the game on any device.

However, this feature has its limitations, as Genshin does not support cross-server play, which means that your data will not be synchronized between multiple servers. You must login to the same server to continue playing your game.

Of course, this means that the game needs a permanent internet connection to log in and play.

How do you save the game in Genshin Impact?

Not allowing users to manually save data in the game or the ability to save Genshin offline provides the player with other ways to save the game progress online. We have compiled some of the methods below:

Using a HoYoverse account

Using a HoYoverse account is the most common and convenient method of saving your game data in Genshin. To sign up, visit the official HoYoverse website

  1. Tap here on the “Login” button in the top right corner and click “register now”

  2. Enter your email address and password in the text field
  3. Click “Send Code” and solve the captcha to receive the verification code
  4. Enter the code
  5. Click on the box labeled “Terms and Conditions” box and click “Register”

You can manage settings here, such as linking your game account and your devices to save game progress.

By creating a HoYoverse account, you can also continue your game on other devices and platforms with the same login ID.

Using a PlayStation Network ID

If you play Genshin on a PlayStation, you can register your PSN ID to save your game progress. With the release of version 2.0, PlayStation users can now link their PSN account to HoYoverse account.

If you have a PSN ID with a saved game and want to connect to a HoYoverse account without a saved game, you must first:

  1. Log in to your game from your PlayStation
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Select Account > User Center > Link account

  4. Link your unused HoYoverse account to your PSN account

If you have a HoYoverse account with a saved game and want to connect to a PSN account without a saved game, you must first:

  1. Open Genshin Impact on your Playstation
  2. A window will appear explaining how to link your account

  3. Enter the details and make sure the email you link has no saved file associated with it

Using an Apple ID/Google ID/Facebook/Twitter

If you are playing Genshin Impact on an iOS device such as iPhone or iPad or any other Android device, you can link your account to your HoYoverse account and save your progress there. The pairing process is the same on all these platforms.

Cross-play features are also enabled if your HoYoverse account does not contain any previous save data. You can easily log in to any device with your HoYoverse ID and continue your saved game from where you last accessed it.

To link your Apple ID, Google ID or your social media account information to your HoYoverse account:

  1. Tap Paimon to open the menu. The icon is located in the top left corner of your screen.
  2. Tap the gear icon
  3. Go to Account > User Center

  4. Go to the “E-mail” option and tap the Link buttonlink email
  5. Enter a verified email address, then tap “Send verification code”
  6. Enter the code received and your mobile device will be linked to your HoYoverse account.

Alternatively, if you want to link a HoYoverse account that already has some saved data with your mobile device,

  1. Tap Paimon to open the menu. The icon is located in the top left corner of your screen.
  2. Tap the gear icon
  3. Go to Account > User Center

  4. From there, find the “Linked Accounts” option and tap it
  5. You’ll see a list of options with all the possible accounts you can link your game data to
    possible accounts
  6. Select the account you want to link with by clicking the “Clutch” knob
  7. You will be prompted to enter your account information
