The Watcher is one of Kill the spire‘s most complex classes, using an extensive deck to balance the three powerful modes. The Watcher differs dramatically from the other classes and requires a thorough understanding of Wrath and Calm to be used effectively.

The Watcher works very well for patient players who like to deal quick bursts of damage before returning to a more defensive position. However, beginners and masters should consider using the strongest cards the Watcher offers to get the most out of this playstyle, and amplify their deck with powerful skills like Scry and Retain.

10 windmill strike

Windmill Strike is a strong victory condition in Kill the spire. It takes two energy to play and does relatively little damage, but its real power is linked to the Retain effect: at the end of each turn, it remains in your hand and the damage increases, meaning it can be dealt in just a few seconds. turns can deal more than 30 damage to take out stronger enemies.

This card works great in card games with lots of blocks. Once Windmill Strike is drawn, you’ll need to survive enough rounds to build up damage before entering Wrath to kill weaker enemies in one fell swoop. Windmill Strike also retains its increased damage during combat, allowing you to re-deal that massive damage in just a few turns. Combine this card with the Bottled Flame relic to make sure you always draw it on the first turn.

9 Talk to the hand

A powerful card that allows the Watcher to play offensive while maintaining his defense. This card works great in Wrath decks, where both damage and blocking are needed to stay alive. Plus, multi-hit attacks like Tantrum and Ragnarok also activate it multiple times, making it a good fit for Wrath decks.

This card is best against elites, bosses, and other high-health enemies, as its effect lasts throughout the fight (or until it’s removed). This allows players to build up blockages while constantly dealing damage. This card is also a great choice for Bottled Flame, allowing it to be activated at the start of each battle for the most uptime.

8 foresight

Scrying is a powerful effect that allows players to look at the top cards of the deck and move unnecessary cards to the bottom so that only the best cards are drawn. Foresight gives scry 3 (4 upgraded) at the start of each turn, making your draw potential exceptionally consistent, especially for smaller decks.

Since Foresight is also triggered very often, it also works well with cards like Nirvana and Weave that give special effects when scrying (getting block and returning a free attack, respectively). Since Foresight allows players to draw only the most necessary cards, it is almost a necessity for Alpha decks to get the Omega effect online.

7 omniscience

A precious card, Omniscience is at the same time very difficult to play and the game ends strong. It allows the player to select any card in his draw pile and play it twice. This can be extremely powerful with the right card choices.

Worship, which gives 5 mantras, allows the viewer to immediately enter the powerful divine attitude. Ragnarok, who deals massive damage, does twice as much damage for free. Finally, having another Omniscience to play with this card can double that card’s effects, allowing you to roll two more cards each for a huge return. This card is very expensive even after an upgrade so having an energy relic is very useful to use it.

6 Branch

Establishment lowers the cost of your cards when they are retained. Because so many of the Watcher’s strongest cards are preserved and are very expensive, the settlement can pay for itself after a few turns in the piles built around those cards.

Establishment is strong in its own right, but upgrading it makes it innate. This allows you to play it at the start of each battle so that it has an effect for the vast majority of the turns you’ll take in one run. In addition, this card works great with Battle Hymn, which generates a Smite card each turn, quickly creating a wide range of free and powerful attacks. Adding Master Reality or Molten Egg to a deck with Establishment and Battle Hymn upgrades each Smite for even more damage.

5 Ragnarok

Ragnarok is a decisive victory condition that must be skillfully built up. Since it takes a hefty 3 energy, players should go into a Ragnarok deck with the understanding that they won’t be able to use it until much later in the run, when they have energy relics and enough cheap cards to keep them alive as Ragnarok rips through their enemies .

Ragnarok’s power comes from its multi-hit functionality: every hit is increased by your Strength stacks, so building up even a few points of Strength can nearly double the damage output. Its biggest weakness, however, is its random targeting, which may target the wrong opponent in multi-enemy battles. Combine Ragnarok with cards such as Wreath of Flame and Trip for massive amounts of damage, and with Talk to the Hand for various instances of block proc.

4 Temper tantrum

Tantrum is a cheap Wrath activation card that also deals solid multi-hit damage. In addition, it returns to the draw pile instead of the discard pile, meaning it can come back much faster than other cards.

Not only is Tantrum a direct upgrade to Crescendo, the Wrath card the Watcher starts out with, but it’s also arguably the strongest Wrath card the Watcher can get. It deals the same or more damage for less energy than Eruption, has a more attractive effect than Indignation, and can be played with much more consistency than Crescendo, despite Crescendo’s ability to hold. This card, combined with Inner Peace and Rushdown, can create an infinite loop by switching poses from Calm to Wrath. Violet Lotus amplifies this infinitely but is absolutely not necessary.

3 Spirit Shield

Spirit Shield is quite expensive, but offers a large amount of blocks. By allocating 3 blocks (4 upgraded) for each card in the hand, Spirit Shield works particularly well in holding and high draw decks, both of which are likely to have a large number of cards in hand at any given time.

Stand dancer decks also like to have one or two Spirit Shields, as they often pack multiple Flurry or Blows cards for free damage when changing stance. This means that a single attitude change can yield multiple cards to create a block with Spirit Shield and then deal more damage. By using the Relic of the Runic Pyramid to prevent your hand from being discarded at the end of your turn, you can guarantee a full hand each turn for maximum blocking.

2 Lesson learned

Lesson Learned does decent damage, especially on an upgrade, and it has a fatal effect: when it kills a non-minion enemy, a random card is upgraded. If this card is found early in a run, or as a starting bonus, it can make forging obsolete, making the Fusion Hammer relic that much more appealing.

This card is made better with more gang fights, so the decks built around it need some degree of protection. A primary card for that purpose is Swivel, which gives 8 blocks and causes the next attack played to cost 0 energy. When played with Lesson Learned, this is the equivalent of 8 blocks, which works great for battles against multiple enemies. It can be a challenge to align, but using the nib relic can double the scholar’s damage, increasing the frequency of fatal activations.

1 Blasphemy

Blasphemy is easily the strongest card in the Watcher’s arsenal, and arguably one of the strongest cards in the game. It immediately places you in Divinity regardless of Mantra, which triples your damage for the turn. This has the potential to end battles.

Blasphemy has one serious drawback that newcomers should be aware of: you die at the start of your next turn. It does this by applying a buff, Blasphemer, which can’t remove things like Artifact or Orange Pellets. Blasphemer can be circumvented, however: it doesn’t kill you; it deals massive damage (10,001, to be exact). As such, Intangible, Buffer, Lizard Tail, and Fairy Bottle can prevent death, allowing you to ignore Blasphemer and reap Blasphemy’s huge benefits. Enter Calm before activating Blasphemy for a massive 5 energy boost, and use Scrawl to draw as many cards as possible for divine amounts of damage.

Kill the spire is available on Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
