Midnight Fight Express features an incredibly satisfying combat system that only gets better as players progress through the game. There are tons of different skills, combos, and mechanics for players to learn, and the game has an incredibly fun set of levels to offer, as well as a surprisingly wide range of customization options.
Although things start relatively simple, Midnight Fight Express ramps up the action quickly, throwing new enemies and challenges at players. Given the depth of the combat system, it’s easy to make mistakes, and in order to defeat the toughest enemies, it’s vital that players take the time to properly learn the mechanics of the game.
9 Not using guns enough
although a lot of Midnight Fight Express is about unarmed combat, there are plenty of weapons available to pick up, both scattered across levels and as drops from enemies. Don’t underestimate how useful these are – melee weapons deal significantly more damage and heavy weapons can easily break through enemy blocks.
In addition, weapons are also extremely powerful. Players are often thrown into tight spaces with some enemies at a distance, so getting a gun is the best way to level the playing field. Just be sure to be careful when firing as each weapon has fairly limited ammunition and cannot be reloaded.
8 Overuse of Basic Attacks
The basic light attack is certainly useful, as it is very fast and deals a decent amount of damage. However, players should not fall into the trap of using it too much. As the game progresses, many enemies become more and more resistant to simple attacks, and a more developed fighting style is needed to defeat especially tougher bosses. For example, the Ravers block all light attacks, meaning players have to resort to alternate attacks to get past their defenses.
Using a variety of attacks and combos is not only practical, it also looks and feels much more satisfying to do, and there are tons of different animations and finishers that can only be done with certain combos. In addition, a more varied fighting style is important for achieving a good score.
7 Picking the wrong skills early
Midnight Fight ExpressThe skill system isn’t too complicated, but it’s important to pick the ones that matter most, especially if you’re facing a particularly difficult part of the game. Of course, there is some wiggle room on which skills to learn first, depending on personal preference, but as a general rule of thumb, it’s a good idea to take different skills from the different trees, rather than progressing in a single tree first.
This ensures that players have the right tools to defeat any enemies they may encounter. Some good options to prioritize for early picks are the first few grapple skills, the light + heavy attack combination, and the parry skills.
6 Do not use the environment
It is important to look out for potentially useful things in the level environments. Most notably, these are likely to be throwable objects and weapons, which are extremely useful for disrupting enemy attacks and gaining some breathing room.
Once players progress further up the skill tree, they will also unlock attacks related to the environment, which is a useful way to finish off injured opponents. They are also often very unique and entertaining animations, such as throwing enemies over railings or into walls.
5 Ignoring the Challenges
The level challenges are not a strict priority, and they are not necessary to complete the main story, but they are usually worth doing. Players will likely have to replay levels to fully complete them, but the challenges offer a unique way to keep the game fresh and are a good test of even an experienced player’s skills.
The challenges are also how most of the cosmetics are unlocked, so players who want a more stylish look for their character will have to complete at least a few.
4 Don’t practice in the playground
One of the best features of Midnight Fight Express is the Playground, a sandbox mode in which players are given a range of options to practice and experiment. Players can choose which enemies to fight against, or customize the behavior of specific ‘dummy’ enemies. They can also choose which weapons will appear.
The playground can be essentially anything a player wants, and has an endless wave mode for those who just want to keep fighting, or individual enemies can be spawned one at a time as well. This mode is great for trying out new combos, skills, or just general practice.
3 Rushing through levels
It’s important to keep a good time if you’re trying to get a good score, but on the first playthrough, it’s better to take it easy. Most of the levels are quite large and there are often handy weapons hidden around levels that can be very useful.
There are also often a few references and Easter eggs scattered around that are worth keeping an eye on. For more complete players, speedruns should be left to later playthroughs, once the hardest challenges are completed and the levels are more familiar.
2 Choosing the wrong difficulty
Midnight Fight Express offers 3 different difficulty levels, but it is very useful, it also allows players to customize more exact options to their taste. Players can adjust how much health they have, how aggressive enemies are, the focus meter, and a few other options.
This allows players to choose exactly what kind of challenge they want to take on. If things are a little too hard, players can just make things a little more forgiving, or vice versa if players find the game too easy.
1 Targeting the wrong enemies
It is important to be able to recognize which enemies should be targeted first. There is a clear hierarchy of which enemies should be prioritized that players should learn. It’s often best to target the weakest enemies to free up some space and make it easier to defeat the stronger enemies.
However, this is not the case when confronting opponents with guns. These enemies should be the absolute priority as they deal a lot of damage and make it extremely difficult to deal with other enemies.
Midnight Fight Express is available on PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One
