Game of Thrones left fans in a weird place after the series finale, but with the release of the House of the Dragon prequel show on HBO, the fandom is back. It may seem like a strange combination to mix the world with pokemon of Game of Thronesbut in a world dictated by politics and combat, having a powerful being by your side isn’t too strange an idea.
Some characters had dragons by their side while others raised giant wolves, but giving them all their own Pokemon companion makes it a more even fight. Beware of those who are not ready yet Game of Thronesbecause there will be a lot of spoilers in this article.
9 Theon Greyjoy (Tentacruel)
Pairing a House Greyjoy member with a squid makes sense. The creature on the family’s sigil is the same creature they would probably gravitate towards if given the chance. Tentacruel also shares some things with Theon that make it a solid pairing. They are complicated Water-type Pokémon that have both aided and attacked humans, and it’s never clear what their real intentions are.
In Game of ThronesTheon serves as both an ally and an enemy, and his character arc is heartbreaking, unsettling and emotionally complex. That said, he may not have the guts to catch a Tentacruel and would be much more likely to end up with a Psyduck or Magikarp as his Water-type Pokemon companion.
8 Robb Stark (Mightyena)
As with many of the men in House Stark, Robb had so much promise as a fighter and eventual king, but it all came crashing down in the unforgettable betrayal known simply as the Red Wedding. Wolves are as loyal to House Stark as winter, and in the world of pokemonit seems that Mightyena is the closest thing to a direwolf that Robb Stark could capture and train.
Known as the Bite Pokemon, these Dark-type dogs would always obey their trainer’s commands, relying on expert coordination with a pack to secure victory. A strategy Robb followed and one that helped him win a series of battles when he was a young man.
7 Robert Baratheon (Wyrdeer)
It’s a shame that Game of Thrones fans were introduced to Robert Baratheon in his later years. In his heyday, he was arguably the most ferocious and powerful warrior in all of Westeros. His strength was unparalleled and he defeated every man who stood against him on the battlefield.
House Baratheon has a deer as its weapon and is known for the words “Ours is the Fury.” Recently, the eighth generation of games has provided Stantler with a secondary evolutionary form called Wyrdeer, which most accurately represents the type of deer a man of Robert’s prowess would want by his side.
6 Sansa Stark (Serperior)
Pairing a House Stark member with a non-dog-like Pokemon may feel blasphemous at first glance, but Sansa Stark was never fully aligned with what was expected of a House Stark woman. In her youth she enjoyed the idea of becoming a queen, but her life experiences made her realize that loyalty and protecting one’s own family is the most important.
Serperior, the Regal Pokemon, is a Grass-type Pokemon that embellishes the royal persona that Sansa maintains at its core, but it also has a confidence that doesn’t feel bloated or undeserved. It is also known for its intimidating look, a trick that Sansa has also used to her advantage in key confrontations.
5 Tyrion Lannister (Alakazam)
In Game of Thrones, few characters captured the attention of viewers as often as Tyrion Lannister. As a dwarf, he knew he could never rule a room with his presence, but thanks to his intelligence and confidence, he was able to find a seat at the table and give a voice for people to listen to. Tyrion always understood that his strength was his mind, which is why it makes sense that he would lean on training a Pokemon that sits in the same spot.
The Psychic type known as Alakazam is arguably the most intelligent Pokemon in existence and is said to have a brain that can surpass supercomputers. Linking one of the smartest men in Westeros to a living supercomputer seems a bit unfair, but when does the world have it? Game of Thrones ever been honest?
4 Arya Stark (Zoroark)
Arya Stark has one of the most interesting character journeys of all Game of Thrones as she starts out as a brave young girl who is molded into a dangerous assassin. The art of illusion plays a huge part in how she can overcome dangers that are much more physically impressive than she is.
A Pokemon like Zoroark, who is known for casting illusions, seems like her perfect partner. It can create illusory landscapes that can mask the location of those it wants to protect. This means that Arya and whatever company she has can get a full night’s sleep in preparation for battle and not have to worry about a surprise attack.
3 Tywin Lannister (Arcanine)
The Lannisters are a proud home in Westeros and therefore certainly make an informed decision about which Pokemon they have caught and raised. House Lannister is represented by a lion on their banner and the world of pokemon has two different lion-adjacent creatures.
The first is Pyroar, a sixth-generation Pokemon with a clunky design, and the other is the Arcanine from the Kanto region. Besides being one of the original 151 Pokemon, a fact that seems relevant to someone like Tywin Lannister, it also has a commanding presence.
2 Daenerys Targaryen (Salamence)
Daenerys Targaryen would obviously have a Dragon-type Pokemon by her side, but which creature she would train and befriend is the real question. The quick answer most people would land on is Charizard, as it’s the most famous dragon-inspired Pokemon, although it’s not actually a Dragon type.
With that in mind, the answer slips clear as day as the third-generation creature known as Salamence. The fact that its species is the Dragon Pokemon is an argument in itself, but add in the elite-level basic stats and the fact that it has the Intimidate ability and there’s no better match for the Dragon Queen.
1 Jon Snow (Lucario)
Despite his abilities as a fighter, Jon Snow’s true strength lay in the empathy he showed to others. As his story unfolded, he had to understand that there was a strong line he had to draw between showing kindness to others and not letting them take advantage of that kindness. The idea of Jon Snow wandering around with a Lucario by his side makes sense because of what the Pokedex says about this stoic Pokemon.
Lucario can understand human speech, but at the same time can read and feel the aura of all living things around him. This could give Jon Snow crucial information about the feelings of both his allies and enemies. Such information could dictate his political views and provide an advantage when it comes to negotiations.
