Seeing Robert Pattinson desperately trying to explain why choosing between Aerith and Tifa in Final Fantasy VII is hard because he’s in love with both is one of my simple pleasures in life. There has been quite a trend of celebrities revealing their nerdy tendencies lately. While celebs have of course always enjoyed one or two games, more and more stars have inadvertently admitted that games are a bigger part of their lives than they initially let on. They’re just like us, you see, they need to relax, and what could be better to relax with than a game of League of Legends?
Wait, actually one lot of things are better to relax with than a game of League of Legends. But from Henry Cavill’s love for Warhammer to Robert Pattinson’s crush on Aerith, gaming’s roots in celebrity culture run far and wide. So this is a list of celebrities and the games they like to play.
Henry Cavill

Henry Cavill doesn’t just play Geralt in the Netflix show – he loves The Witcher 3 and the lore surrounding the books and games. At San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, he told fans he pushed his agent to meet with The Witcher’s showrunner, Lauren Schmidt, before the series got the green light. It was that persistence that landed him the role of Geralt. And he’s already hinted slightly that he’d be interested in starring in a… Red Dead Redemption Adjustment (opens in new tab) at.
Cavill’s love of games doesn’t just end with The Witcher. Maybe you remember that video of him building his pc (opens in new tab) and the ruckus it caused on the internet. He is also known to play Overwatch, and he is a big Warhammer fan (opens in new tab) also. Here’s a very nice interview (opens in new tab) where Cavill had to politely explain that Warhammer is not World of Warcraft, and that painting miniatures is a perfectly normal hobby, thank you.
Robert Pattinson

The Twilight fan in me is always happy to add Robert Pattinson to any topic of conversation, but he’s here for his Final Fantasy VII rant. The Batman actor has an adorable chat with co-star Zoe Kravitz, where he desperately tries to explain the importance of Aerith and Tifa in Final Fantasty VII and how he cried when (spoilers) Aerith died. He even explains that depending on the version of the game, Aerith’s name could be Aerith or Aeris. He’s such a geek for this one game and it’s so healthy to watch him go out of his way to make this sound as exciting as possible.
Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg is another well-known celebrity with a public appreciation for games. The rapper is known to play Call of Duty Warzone live, although he’s not exactly the most seasoned streamer. He once ran the current for seven hours after quitting a rage (opens in new tab) which made for a really funny moment when he comes back to the computer to stop the stream. He went too live a week without audio (opens in new tab) and none of his fans could even tell him despite their best efforts. It almost sounds like performance art.
Snoop likes a little CoD and some Madden, based on what he plays live on his channel DoodyDog20 (opens in new tab).
Terry Crews
While I must confess I don’t know Terry Crew’s favorite game, at least he’s built a PC before. in a interview with Business Insider (opens in new tab), the actor tells the story of how he took an interest in his children’s passions, including PC gaming. After failing to understand why his son liked to watch people play games, he says, “I realized I was losing my son. I was losing him. And I said, I have to be part of his world. I need to know what he’s about Because you know parents so often think, “Okay, come on, you’re going to work with daddy. Come and do what daddy wants you to do.” And I realized I didn’t want to be that man.”
So Crews started building a PC with his son and discovered the joy that activity could bring as a close-knit experience. Healthy, huh? This is why it’s so great to build your own PC (opens in new tab).
Crews also had a custom build made for him by JayzTwoCents, which looks badass and just happens to be Old Spice themed.
Garry Kasparov
Kasparov isn’t much of a celebrity unless you like chess. But if you like chess, he is a superstar. This grandmaster has been the best-ranked chess player in the world for decades and has a great appreciation for online games in addition to chess. More specifically, Garry Kasparov likes a bit of Hearthstone.
Blizzard did a promotional video for Hearthstone featuring the chess legend talking about how he enjoys the challenge and saying that some of the larger chess community do too. The interview revolves around how Kasparov was defeated by an AI in 1997, which was his first loss and one he took personally. However, he says Hearthstone’s draw is that the AI you’re playing against won’t master the game the way an AI could master chess, because there are so many variables. Obviously, Kasparov still gets a kick out of outsmarting computers.
jacket black
Jack Black starred in his own game, Brütal Legend, so I imagine that’s at the top of his favorites list. But bizarrely, he loves Five Nights at Freddy’s enough that he knows the song of the same name from The Living Tombstone. Black started a YouTube channel called JablinskiGames (opens in new tab)with video evidence that he owns a gaming chair.
He also made this TikTok. Enjoy it.

Jamie Lee Curtis
Yes, Jamie Lee Curtis really did lead her daughter’s wedding in full cosplay. Best known for her role in the Halloween movies, the actress is known for cosplaying here and there. She wore a full Jaina Proudmoore costume for her daughter’s wedding, but she also attended EVO as Street Fighter’s Vega in 2015, as the mask allowed her to hide her true identity. badass.

Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd
Hobbits love two things: food and League of Legends, it seems. Actors Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd played a lot of League of Legends during the lockdown it seems and they’ve talked about it several times their love for the game (opens in new tab) also on their podcast. Apparently they even tried to get fellow hobbit Elijah Wood to play. How healthy, huh? I mean, if they’re not arguing over whose fault is a loss, I imagine.
Mila Kunis
Mila Kunis was a fan of World of Warcraft at one point – so much so that she had to seemingly ban the game from her life. The actress speaks briefly about her love of the game in her 2021 YouTube episode of Hot Ones, where she said she knew her habit was spiraling out of control when her agent had to log into the game to talk to her. And her character had pink hair and pigtails, which is cute.
David Harbor
On the subject of World of Warcraft, the Stranger Things star says the game ruined his life. He said in an interview that he played “the shit” out of the game in 2005. Harbor apparently played a night elf warrior named Norad who was his guild’s second tank. The actor says he was addicted to WoW for a year to the point that he was “off” [his] mind.”
Harbor also liked to play The Sims and that took him out of his Warcraft phase. Harbbour saw one of his sims become too focused on video games rather than life around him, and he reevaluated his life. Without The Sims, I wonder where the actor would be now.
Plenty of other celebrities have appeared in games and around gaming culture, such as Rosario Dawson and Samuel L. Jackson, but as far as I can tell, they haven’t declared a favorite PC game yet. Of course there will be people who play secretly from their own house, and to them I say go ahead, confess that you are nerds like us.
