within all Rings of Power trailers released so far, there have been tantalizing glimpses of new and never-before-seen creatures. One of the best things about the Lord of the Rings and the hobbit is the wonderful array of creatures, from Ents to Balrogs to Giant Eagles to skin-changers and many more, and it looks like the new Amazon TV series won’t disappoint in this regard either.

With other popular fictional universes releasing entire trilogies based on the mythical creatures of their lore (such as Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), fans of Tolkien’s legend are raving about the possibility of the franchise’s own Magical Creatures Grimoire. Here are just some of the beasts spotted in the trailers that could improve on such a series.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Many of these scenes are just very quick snippets, with little information about the creatures they contain. One of those photos is of two human men walking across the plains of Middle Earth, dressed in what looks like giant elk antlers. In the foreground is a Harfoot disguised in straw, warning her people that there are people nearby.

This strange decoration of an antler could indicate a new and unusual creature that existed in the forest, which may have become extinct when the war of the Second Century wiped out many of the lands and forests of the world. Thranduil himself rides into battle on a giant moose, and there are also giant spiders in Mirkwood, so perhaps these large creatures were much more common before Sauron’s reign.

There is an iconic scene in the trailer that has sparked much speculation surrounding the elves and their attempt to sail back to Valinor. In the scene, the elves can be seen gathered aboard a golden ship pointing toward a beam of light bursting through the clouds. From the ship, Galadriel sees a flock of mystical white birds flying towards the light. Galadriel is known in the Lord of the Rings because of her kinship with swans, and the wooden boats in Lothlorien reflect this, but perhaps they weren’t swans at all.

These birds in the Rings of Power trailer are clearly something much less earthy, and come from the golden lands of Valinor rather than Middle Earth itself. As they fly, their elongated tail feathers brush in the wind behind them like a silver banner. It is thought that these birds may be a sacred emblem of the Immortal Lands and play an important role in Galadriel’s redemption.

Another sneaky glimpse has already informed viewers that Ents will be there during the Second and Third Centuries of the Rings of Power series. But according to Tolkien’s law, this is a crucial period for the tree herders. This is when they lost the Ent women and no more Entings emerged.

According to Tolkien’s canon, the Ent women had a penchant for small plants and moved all over the world to the brown lands, where they created beautiful gardens, grew fruits and flowers, and took care of all kinds of little creatures of the forest. But during the Second Age, when Sauron takes over, their gardens were destroyed and they went missing never to be seen again. Perhaps the final shot of the latest trailer, where Arondir is dragged backwards into a bush of carrots by some very earthy hands, is a glimpse of the Entings. Granted, these hands move really fast for an Ent species and look strangely humanoid, minus what look like claws. However, the thick root system from which they arise has allowed humans to connect with the tree keepers of yesteryear.

Probably the most obvious and bestial looking of all the trailer creatures shown so far is the giant troll that Galadriel faces in the ice caves of the mountains. The creature is believed to be a snow troll, something similar to the trolls used to attack the company in the mines of Moria during the The Society of the Ring.

The creature has the same large build, thick shoulders, gray skin, strong arms and beaded eyes, but also has an unusual mouth and some form of tusks, showing that it is a much earlier ancestor than the trolls in one of the trilogies of Peter Jackson.

It is already known from seeing the devastation that Smaug caused the terrible in Lake Town during the hobbit, that there are dragons in Middle-earth. What some may not know is that some of these dragons were born from the water, like the giant sea serpent whose tail flickers behind Galadriel in the most recent teaser as she desperately swims away from what appears to be a shipwreck in the distance.

The snake is huge and clearly capable of extreme damage. Fans everywhere are interested to see what role these creatures will play in the Rings of Powerand what happened to them that they were gone by the time Frodo’s quest for the ring in the Third Age begins.
