Netflix’s squid game resonated with fans everywhere as it beautifully contrasts the unfairness of classism and poverty with a range of games as warped as the real world, but everyone is equal. Failure of the games has deadly consequences. Consequences players gladly took on instead of going back to their difficult lives.

The deadly games in season one were infamously based on popular Korean children’s games. With the announcement of a second season by Netflix, many are wondering which games they will be introduced to squid game Season 2. Funnily enough, these games may have been mentioned in Season 1.

9 Biseokchigi

A traditional Korean game that was briefly mentioned in Episode 3 of squid game. This game can be played with two people or with teams. Teams are sometimes preferred to make it more interesting. Usually the game is played with a drawn line. Usually a stone is placed on the line. The object is for one player or team to knock down the opponent’s or team’s stone with their own stone. If the game is only one on one, usually only one stone needs to be knocked down. If it’s a team, it’s several.

This game would only be effective in Season 2 if the game is played in teams. It raises the stakes and poses a greater chance of player elimination. It’s not one of the top contenders to appear next season, but that would be the only way to make it memorable

8 hopscotch

Gi-Hun refers to hopscotch in episode 3 of season 1. Hopscotch is a familiar one to many. Basically there is already a playing field that already exists or has been mapped out with a series of linear squares of different sizes. There are usually a few squares next to each other after a single square in a pattern. The squares are often numbered based on the order in which a player must jump on them.

How a player chooses his destination for jumping is to throw a marker on the field and skip the field where the marker lands. The player succeeds upon reaching the safe zone, which is usually a semicircle at the top of the field. Hopscotch could be a likely candidate if it shows a flair for the dramatic. Think of the glass bridge in episode 7. It should be more of an obstacle than the marker itself.

7 Freeze Tag

A pretty simple one. Also a well known game. Freeze tag was another one mentioned in episode 3. It’s the game of tag but if a player is tagged they get “frozen”. A player cannot move until another teammate gives the frozen player a high five, or something similar.

This game could work well for the show if it is set on a time limit. Basically anyone who is still frozen at the end of the game will be eliminated. It can create stressful moments for beloved characters and provide opportunities for other characters to establish heroism or rogue status by choosing to save, tag, or leave other players for elimination.

6 gonggi

Gonggi is basically the Korean version of jacks/knucklebones. It looks less painful as it is played with plastic pebbles or regular pebbles as opposed to spiky metal jacks. The main difference is that Gonggi is not played with a rubber ball, but with one of the stones already present. The object is for a player to throw a stone into the air and try to grab one of the stones in play before the stone comes down in the air.

The player has to sweep a stone and at the same time catch the stone in the air to continue. As the game progresses, a player must sweep up more tiles while one tile is in the air. The game of gonggi would probably be similar to the marble games in episode 6 to make it memorable.

5 elastics

This game was mentioned in several episodes throughout the season. Elastics is a kind of simplified version of double Dutch skipping rope. An elastic band is stretched around the ankles of 2 players at each end. One on each side. The bands create two parallel lines that a third player, or in some cases several players, jump over. The goal is not to hit the tires or trip and fall.

The length of how long you have to do this is similar to double Dutch and skipping rope where you are timed by a tune or series of phrases. It may seem crazy, but imagining this type of game in the series can bring something stressful for the players. In several episodes of the series, the men have claimed that “girls are good at elastics,” which would indeed be an interesting juxtaposition due to the certainty of strength in episode 4’s tug of war held by men.

4 cat crib

Mentioned in episode 3, Cat’s Cradle may not seem like a likely candidate for next season. What could be true. However, given the nature of the game, it has the potential to be just as stressful as the dalgona game in episode 3. Yes, the cookie-candy episode.

When playing cat crib, players have to imitate certain shapes with a string. If you don’t, it will end in elimination. What’s even crazier is that this game can be played in teams. Which might make it more challenging with higher stakes.

3 Da Bang Gu

Another form of tag. Gi-Hun mentions this game in episode 3 ‘The Man With the Umbrella’. It is quite similar to jail tag. There is a coordinated prison space for the people who are caught or tagged. Those not tagged have the opportunity to rescue people from this designated area to help their team achieve victory.

This would be an interesting entry into the games, especially if the players are sentenced to prison. It can also offer opportunities for a double cross.

2 Tail Tag

Tail tag can be in the games for sheer novelty alone. This one was actually mentioned in Episode 4. Players are made to wear fake tails or cloths hanging from their back pockets. This game is quite simple. Players run around trying to collect as many “tails” as possible while trying to maintain their own vault.

Usually in these types of games, once a player’s story is recorded, some exercise or task has to be performed. In squid gamethey would just be eliminated.

1 Why did you come to my house?

This game was mentioned in episode 4. What’s more is that the creator of the show, Hwang Dong Hyuk, mentioned it in an interview. He claimed that this game would be a nice addition because of its endless possibilities. The game is played with two teams of equal size. There is an exchange of puns between both the attacking and defending teams. The defending team will then ask the attacking team which of their players they want to target. The attacking team appoints a player to the defending team. The defending player must then play rock, paper, scissors with the attacker who is facing him. If the defending player wins, they stay in their circle. If they lose, they must join the circle of the attacking groups.

This is an interesting one. It can be played if the one who remains standing is eliminated. In squid gameHowever, games played usually offer a higher number of bodies. So the game should be played with a twist. Maybe some kind of limit. This game definitely leaves room for backstabbing and targeting weaker opponents. Though there’s a chance rock, paper or scissors isn’t the deciding factor as to who joins which circle. In fact, if you know the series, it would probably be something much more menacing and challenging.
