The highly anticipated free update to Total War: Warhammer 3 that brings all playable factions to one map finally has a release date.

While fans did look forward to playing the new factions and more story-focused campaign in Total War: Warhammer 3, many were ancitipating one major update that would tie this trilogy of Warhammer games together. As Mortal Empires did for Total War: Warhammer 2, Immortal Empires will bring the factions from all three games into one giant map, allowing Total War: Warhammer's Greenskins to fight the Legion of Chaos from Total War: Warhammer 3, for example, and Grand Cathay to test its might against the Empire.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Considering Mortal Empires released as a free expansion for owners of Total War: Warhammer and Total War: Warhammer 2 just over a month after the second game released, some were expecting Immortal Empires on a similar timescale. However, Total War: Warhammer 3 has suffered numerous setbacks since it first launched in February, with a lot of players having issues with the overall state of the game. In order to prioritize bug fixing, Total War: Warhammer 3 developer Creative Assembly pushed back the release of new content for the game.

This meant that Immortal Empires' release would arrive much later than had first been anticipated. Now, fans finally have a solid date on when the combined map and campaign of all three Total War: Warhammer games will arrive. Previously, thanks to a new trailer for Total War: Warhammer 3, Creative Assembly informed players that Immortal Empires would be coming sometime in August. In a recent video response to a Reddit AMA, it was confirmed that Immortal Empires will launch on August 23.

This date may be later than fans were expecting, as it points more towards the end of August than had been predicted by some. However, it seems as though Creative Assembly is hoping to give itself as much time as possible to ensure the launch of Immortal Empires runs smoothly. With the aforementioned criticism of Total War: Warhammer 3's launch state that led to quick hotfixes and patches being brought out to balance the game, it is likely Creative Assembly doesn't want a repeat of that situation.

The Immortal Empires launch is also being referred to as a beta, implying that should anything be majorly wrong with the expansion when it releases, it is not in a finished state. Alongside Immortal Empires and more content for Total War: Warhammer 3, Creative Assembly is also working on Hyenas, a team-based FPS game that is set to launch in 2023. It is clear then, that the developer is keeping itself busy.

Total War: Warhammer 3 is available on Mac, Linux, and Windows PC. Immortal Empires launches August 23.
