Ryan Gosling shared that he wants to be the next Ghost Rider, while also ending rumors about his involvement in Marvel Studios’ Nova.

Ryan Gosling is currently starring in the gray man alongside Chris Evans and Ana de Armas, but recent rumors about a possible role in the MCU have led the actor to reveal that he would rather play Ghost Rider in the superhero franchise.

Gosling has evidently been one of the names pitched as a contender for the role of Marvel Studios’ Nova, which the actor himself shot down. While Gosling may not appear in any future Marvel Studios projects, he has expressed his interest in reprising Nicolas Cage’s iconic role for this next phase of the MCU.

During Gosling’s recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Josh Horowitz learned an interesting detail about the actor’s coveted role in the MCU: Gosling wants to be the next Ghost Rider. “Next week, my full chat with Ryan Gosling for @MTVNews. But for now, a heartfelt EXCLUSIVE,” Horowitz tweeted. “Ryan and I talked about the New rumors yesterday that he said are not true. BUT this morning Ryan reached out to me to say there’s a superhero he wants to play… GHOST RIDER.”

even if the Blade Runner 2049 debunked rumors about his involvement in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Nova project, his excitement at the possibility of reintroducing Johnny Blaze sparked some fan theories. This wouldn’t be the first time a rumor Ghost Rider project is in progress. Last year, the Robbie Reyes version of the ABC character SHIELD agents was reported to be getting a spin-off series, with Gabriel Luna set to play the street racer.

However, in an October 2021 interview with ComicBook, Luna discussed why the project was cancelled. As Luna recalled, Robbie Reyes’ series Ghost Rider had been looking for a showrunner long enough for the Marvel TV team to keep paying to keep his schedule open in order to ensure he was available to play the lead role. Even when Disney acquired Fox and launched Disney Plus, the Ghost Rider series managed to get into pre-production. However, once Marvel Studios absorbed Marvel Television and former company president Kevin Feige was put in charge of overseeing all television productions, Marvel TV executive Jeph Loeb was fired and all Marvel Television productions were canceled or suspended.

The Fire Biker was first brought to life by Cage in the 2007 film Ghost Rider and again following 2012 Ghost Rider’s Spirit of Vengeance. Since then, Marvel hasn’t touched the character, apparently waiting for the right opportunity to do so. Whether Gosling is now presenting this right opportunity remains to be seen.

Ghost Rider (2007) is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
