Game Rant recently spoke to the actresses who play Resident Evil’s Young Billie and Young Jade about the chance to bring new characters to life.

Netflix resident Evil The series is available now and viewers can begin exploring a new era of franchise lore with the show’s split timelines of 2022 and 2032. During the previous timeline, the show’s central focus is on two new characters with a very familiar last name: Billie and Jade Weskar.

The long-time bond resident Evil Franchise villain Albert Weskar was no secret to join the show, but viewers will definitely be in for some surprises and twists along the way. Of course, the decision to focus on new characters can be risky and potentially frustrate veteran fans of the games, so the pressure was on the actors and actresses bringing this new era to life. Game Rant recently had the chance to sit down with the actresses who play young Billie and young Jade and talk about their approach to including these new characters in the franchise’s lore…

Game rant: With no existing Resident Evil game characters to draw inspiration from, how did you approach these characters? Did you look at other Resident Evil characters while performing for Young Billie and Young Jade?Tamara Smart (Young Jade): I think the fun of developing a new character is that you get to build that character on your journey to make the show. You can mold that person and choose their flaws and develop those relationships. I think we both work a little bit outside of Albert Weskar as well and work with the unspoken past on the show because they’ve obviously had trauma and they’ve always been moving. So I think a lot of what our characters say and do and the way they are is based on how they struggle with that trauma. Billie is kind of introverted and Jade is just angry and attacks.Siena Agudong (Young Billie): Yes, we get acquainted with the world through video games. So I think going into it, we had this sense of horror, intensity, stress, high stakes all the time. And then we put ourselves as teenagers in that world, which was really fun to play with.

We won’t get into spoiler territory here, but some interesting twists throughout the first season definitely seem to establish additional connections and references to other established franchise characters. If the series returns for future seasons, it will be very interesting to see how the new and legacy characters connect across each of the timelines.

Be sure to come back for more resident Evil coverage in the near future now that the first season has dropped.
