The Persona series is a hit, given releases on the Play station Platform all the way back since 1996. Since then we have seen 5 persona titles released to date. It was back in 2016 to say Persona was released to the public and to claim it was one of the best-selling games for the series would be an understatement. So now it’s the era of the PS5 but players would have to pay full price for Persona 5 Royal Remastered for the PS5

Persona was at the top of the charts for many Game of the Year lists and like persona 4the game got its own ultimate edition with added bonus content in the form of Persona 5 Royal. The game introduced a new group member named kasumia new explorable neighborhood called Kichijoji commercial along with new weapons, extra endings and new items and many other additions.

Persona 5 Royal Remastered gets a full price tag

But now things are getting a bit expensive as players of the original game won’t be able to upgrade the editions for the PS5, that’s not without the full retail price of 60 dollars for a little more Persona 5 content. The updated version of the PS5 game is slated for release in October and it seems pretty clear that Sony and ALTUS go the same way.

It was in a FAQ of the Persona 5 Channel Website where developers have revealed that owners of PS4 versions of Persona 5 Royal will not be able to upgrade their game to the PS5 in any way. This means that players will have to pay the full price of $60 for the remastered version of the game. Even worse, owners of Persona 5 on seventh-generation consoles didn’t receive a discounted upgrade to PS4.

Persona fans are die-hard fans. So players who pay for the Persona 5 Remastered edition and have played the game since the time of the PS3 will have paid a total of four times full price with each new release. And that’s about $250.

Given that fans haven’t seen Persona 5 Royal Remastered gameplay yet, it’s pretty unclear whether the game will be worth paying full price again. Persona 5 was launched as a PlayStation exclusive title and it’s pretty disappointing to realize that Sony won’t be offering fans discounted upgrades for the Remastered Edition.

Microsoft on the other hand, this scenario handled perfectly. It partially dominates the cross-generational market with Xbox’s Smart Delivery System which offers free upgrades for everyone Xbox One title that gamers own.

There have been many complaints about Sony charging full price for games, in addition to the price increases through the eighth and ninth generations. Sony initially charged $60 for video games, but expect a 70 dollars price tag on recent PS5 titles.

The last of us fans were also pretty disappointed when they found out they had to pay $70 for the Last of us part 1 remake. In addition, games like Life is Strange Remastered also failed to deliver an upgrade. But on the plus side, games like Death Stranding Director’s Cut and Ghost of Tsushima offered fans a static price to upgrade from the last generation, while many other titles received free upgrades.

This frustrating, unreliable and cash-grabby tactic of dealing with cross-generational gaming has put Sony at odds with many fans who just want to enjoy their favorite games on a new platform. It’s also likely that these decisions were made to prevent players from abusing the upgrade system by purchasing last-generation copies to get free or discounted upgrades for the PS5 version.

To be fair, this limits players’ enjoyment across the board and shrinks the Playstation 5’s already limited library of updated games in favor of a small profit. And Persona fans are considering whether to buy Persona 5 Royal Remastered or not

Right now Persona 5 Royal is exclusive to the PS4 and the remastered version is well on its way to the PS5. In addition, Persona 5 Royal is currently being developed for other platforms such as the Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch.
