Today, third-party developers unveiled new assets of upcoming add-ons for Microsoft Flight Simulator, while two airports have been released.

We start with new screenshots and a development update from DC Designs on the upcoming AV-8B Harrier II. The developer also confirmed that the plane will be released simultaneously in September in third-party stores and the official marketplace, including Xbox. Consequently, the Phantom will be pushed to Christmas.

“I finally got to spend almost a full week in the cockpit of the Harrier and covered a lot of ground. While I’ve also been involved in the ongoing updates to my other aircraft, it was good to finally work on the interior with some more detailing and new PBR texture.

The Asobo pilot is a nice addition to the aircraft, especially because with the proper use of nodes it is possible to place the pilot’s hands and boots on the controls and watch them move as the stick, throttle and rudder to move. Have fun and another step towards reality – I’d love to see them add a “headless” VR specific version to increase the immersion when using virtual reality headsets.

The interior modeling is progressing nicely, with detail work in the cockpit. Much of what you see here is only half complete, with hundreds of rivets and bolt heads yet to be added, not to mention all the switches, levers, panel stickers and of course relevant animations. However, most of this is standard work at this stage and with the exterior modeling about 95% complete, the project is now well on its way. I will be adding the longer AV-8B+ nose section soon, ready to include other colors in the pack, including that of the GR9 variant.

Orbx has also revealed more screenshots showing the progress of Australia’s upcoming Launceston Airport (YMLT) by indie developer Ken Hall.

SoFly and WTFlightsim have released Mataveri International Airport (SCIP) on Easter Island.

You can buy it from SoFly’s own store or on Orbx Direct for $10.45.
