An interesting moment from Horizon Forbidden West shows the Apex Slaughterspine taking down Aloy even in her final moments via a unique ability.

Despite receiving bombed reviews in the first few days after its release, Forbidden West Horizon has been praised by fans and critics as a great sequel to 2017 Horizon Zero Dawn. Sending Aloy on an adventure to the West Coast of a post-apocalyptic North America, there are a ton of additions to be found in this new setting. From new mechanics like gliding and underwater exploration, to a host of new machines in Forbidden West Horizonfans were immediately greeted with a lot of content in the second game.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Regarding the new machines, there have been some deadly additions to the roster of mechanical enemies. Perhaps none are more intimidating and lethal than the Apex Slaughterspine, an enemy that can give Aloy a complete challenge even at the highest level of Forbidden West Horizon. According to a video as well, it appears that if a player drops the hard machine, it doesn’t necessarily mean they walk away alive.

As shown in a short clip by user AkinToTheBreach on Reddit, a Slaughterspine can kill the player even after dying in Forbidden West Horizon. As Slaughterspine takes lethal damage and begins to tip over, it launches a laser attack from its tail, splitting the ground in front of it and catching the player and their mount. This attack alone is not enough to take down Aloy, her damage over time kills the player.

This is because Slaughterspine’s lasers apply the plasma elemental effect. Again, generally this wouldn’t be enough to kill a player on its own, but AkinToTheBreach was venturing out Forbidden West Horizon on Ultra Hard difficulty, which will make most attacks from tough enemies a one-shot kill. This death could have been avoided by AkinToTheBreach if they had used a Cleanse Potion. Or, as users pointed out in the comments of the Reddit post, they could have simply found water nearby, as this also eliminates elemental effects.

In addition to displaying a strange case of mutually assured destruction, many other Forbidden West Horizon players have shared their interesting moments from the game. One player managed to arm Firegleam in Forbidden West Horizon, using the environmental obstacle to finish off a load of enemies. With so many users posting their favorite moments, it’s clear that Forbidden West Horizon is a popular title among gamers, and this was recently proven when the game received the Best Game award in 2022.

Forbidden West Horizon is now available for PS4 and PS5.
