During his press tour for light yearChris Evans is inevitably faced with some questions about his past and possible future as Captain America with Marvel Studios. Now he has shared how he would like to pick up the shield again now that it belongs to Anthony Mackie.
Ever since Chris Evans stepped down from the Captain America role and passed it on to Mackie, fans have wondered if this was really the last we’ve seen of The First Avenger. Now Evans has confirmed his stance on returning as Captain America in this new multiverse chapter of the MCU.
During an interview on the Disney D23 Podcast, Evans said returning to the role would be “disturbing.” “I do not think [I would return]. I mean, it was really an incredible ride and the character is so dear to me and I’m just so dear to it,” he shared. “To get back to the role, I mean, the truth is, the role isn’t even from me is no more. The role is that of Anthony Mackie. So, you know, even if there was another incarnation, not as Captain America, but you know for Steve Rogers, even that would feel… I’d be very careful just because I love that chapter of my life, professionally , personal. I love what those movies accomplished and to watch it again and possibly have some weird extension of that legacy would be shocking if it didn’t land. So it would require a near-perfect recipe, and it may just not be in the cards.”
Marvel fans have been hoping Evans would reprise his role as Steve Rogers in some capacity, especially after rumors circulated that he would be returning as the beloved soldier in an upcoming Marvel Studios project. However, Evans has denied those rumors and nothing official has been announced. While Evans may not return as Cap, he did share that he misses working with Marvel and would be looking at another project in the future, though he’d rather reprise his Fantastic Four role than Captain America. “Johnny Storm, I feel like he didn’t really get his day,” Evans told MTV News earlier this month. “That was before Marvel really took off. So I loved that part and, you know, who knows?”
the nameless one Captain America 4 film will see Mackie return to the titular role alongside co-writer Malcolm Spellman, who was the lead writer for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The Disney Plus series was the first to show a new world after the death of Steve Rogers, and it explored the anger and struggle of Sam Wilson’s (formerly known as Falcon) decision to take up the shield as a black man in America. . Currently, the plot details for the film are currently unknown and no director is attached to the project. It’s likely that fans will get to see more details about the film at Marvel Studios’ panel at Comic-Con next month.
Even though Evans’ legacy as Steve Rogers may be over, fans can still look forward to more of Mackie’s Captain America. Captain America 4 is still in development, and Evans’ new movie light year is now in cinemas.
The Captain America movies are now available on Disney Plus.
