Bungie Reiterates Destiny 2 And Other Games Will Remain Multiplatform Despite PlayStation Buyout

Sony Interactive Entertainment recently completed its acquisition of Bungie, which was worth approximately $3.6 billion. After the acquisition, many fans have wondered about the future of Lot 2 and other Bungie titles as the company now falls under the PlayStation umbrella. Excited about the future of the company, Bungie took a closer look at the status of Lot 2.

Lot 2 first launched on September 6, 2017, under publisher Activision. The multiplayer first-person shooter faced a lot of criticism during its first year of support, but Bungie would turn the general perception around with the launch of Destiny 2: Forsaken in 2018. Destiny 2: Forsaken was one of the game’s most acclaimed expansions and introduced seasonal content. Following the expansion’s great success, Bungie would anticipate: Destiny 2: Shadowkeep, announce a split from Activision publishing in 2019 and bring the title to the popular Steam platform. The game’s player base would continue to thrive through expansions Destiny 2: Beyond Light and Destiny 2: The Witch Queen alongside a wealth of updates and seasonal content. The next expansion, Destiny 2: Lightfallarrives in 2023.

Through the official Bungie Twitter account, the company announced: Lot 2 and other major games would remain multiplatform after the Sony acquisition. Bungie quickly allayed concerns Lot 2‘s future, and the company said that “our games will stay where our community is, wherever they want to play.” In addition, Bungie will continue to independently publish and develop games such as: Lot 2. The company aims to “power one, unified Bungie community” with support from Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Bungie reiterates its positive stance on multi-platform releases, and the Sony acquisition encourages Bungie to expand its ranks by hiring more talented developers. After the acquisition was completed, Bungie said, “the most immediate change you’ll see is an acceleration in hiring talent across the studio to support our ambitious vision.” The company is currently recruiting in all disciplines for: Lot 2 and future titles to come.

Bungie’s current status as a studio is encouraging for many players of Lot 2. The popular online title will receive new expansions, updates and content on all supported platforms in the coming years. Bungie is now backed by Sony while retaining creative freedom, allowing the company to develop the content it is known for. In addition, the buyout will allow Bungie to increase its development capabilities as it explores new projects in the future.

The buyout doesn’t seem to have any downsides for Bungie as a whole at this point. However, Sony is expected to make more acquisitions in the coming years as the company explores live service games and PC ports. Future acquisitions could see studios create exclusive content under the PlayStation Studios umbrella.

Lot 2 is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
