Marvel Snap is a fast mobile card game from Second Dinner. Featuring some of your favorite Marvel superheroes and villains, Marvel Snap has over 150 cards for players to build a deck around. However, not all cards are available at the start of the game, and like other collector card games, some are better than others.
Collection progress is handled a little differently in Marvel Snap. You can’t buy packs or even individual cards like with other digital card games. Instead, you earn collection levels as you upgrade the cards in your collection. At different milestones, players will earn different rewards, including new cards to use. While the cards players unlock are usually random, they are divided into three sections called pools. The first pool has 46 cards that players can unlock and these cards are some of the best.
10/10 Jessica Jones
Jessica Jones got a bit of a rework, taking her from a fine card to a versatile midrange threat. Her On Reveal ability is activated on the turn after she’s played, giving her an extra four-power if you don’t play another card in that location.
Previously, your opponent could easily play five Jessica Jones around your turn and plan for the increase in power she would get from her skill. Now that she only costs four energy, you can play around her ability, boost her and potentially play more cards in her location.
9/10 Bishop
While a card with two powers for three mana doesn’t seem great, Bishop’s ability allows him to grow into a cheap powerhouse later in the game.
isshop’s unique power gives him +1 power every time you play a card anywhere on the board. In a card game with a lot of cheap cards, Bishop can quickly become one of the strongest cards in the game.
8/10 spider woman
Another card that got some changes, increasing her cost from four to five, but also her power from four to seven. Increasing her cost may seem bad at first, but it benefits her when combined with her On Reveal ability.
When Spider-Woman is revealed, she powers all enemy cards -1. With higher energy costs, it gives your opponent more time to fill a location, giving you the highest payout for Spider-Woman’s ability. Against a full location, Spider-Woman can cause an 11-point swing on a location.
7/10 Scarlet Witch
The infamous Scarlet Witch has an interesting role in Marvel Snap. With three power for two energy, she’s a solid creature, but nothing special in stats. The Scarlet Witch’s real power comes from her On Reveal ability.
When you play Scarlet Witch in a location, she changes it to a new, random location. If there is a location that benefits your opponent and not you, feel free to change it to something completely different. The new location may not be great either, but it will definitely be different.
6/10 electricity
Another card with a powerful On Reveal ability, Elektra has a very specific targeted removal. When Elektra is revealed, she will destroy a random one-time card in that location.
Although somewhat situational, your opponent must have a one-time card in play to be able to do anything, it’s especially good against Sunspot, Ebony Maw, or disrupting an opponent’s Nova play.
5/10 Angela
Like Bishop, Angela starts out small, but gains strength quickly the more cards you play. However, Angela is more specific than Bishop and gains +2 power at the location she is in every time you play a card.
With this power, Angela is best played early in an empty location to maximize the number of triggers her ability will get from other cards. With a full location, Angela can easily grow into a map with seven powers for just two energy.
However, there is an interesting synergy with cards like Green Goblin and Hobgoblin, two cards that jump to your opponent’s side when revealed. If played to a location where you already have an Angela, she gets the +2 stat boost when Hobgoblin is revealed, then turns to the other side, freeing up that card’s slot on your side of a location.
4/10 Lady Sif
An absolute staple in discard-based card games, Lady Sif is a fair card with four powers for three mana. Her real power comes from her On Reveal ability to discard the highest cost card from your hand.
While it may seem like a drawback at first, there are a few different ways to return those expensive cards to play. Cards like Ghost Rider, Hela, and especially Apocalypse, which gains +4 power and then reappears in your hand, all benefit from having expensive cards sent to the discard pile.
3/10 night crawler
A card with two powers for one mana may not seem great, but Nightcrawler’s special ability makes it great. Once a match, you can move Nightcrawler from one location to another, similar to his iconic teleportation ability from the comic.
Moving from one location to another can free up space to play more cards, especially good for cards like Angela who gets a stat boost when a card enters her location or when you need a few extra points to complete a to secure victory in a location.
2/10 Iron Man
With a unique continuous ability, Iron Man can take a losing location and turn it into an absolute victory. Iron Man doubles the power at the location he is in, taking into account any buffs cards you already have or can acquire.
Since this ability is always active, cards like Bishop or Jessica Jones, who gain more power over time, gain double power instead. This goes both ways, though, with cards like Spider-Woman having -2 strength instead of just -1. Despite this drawback, Iron Man is an incredibly powerful card that can quickly achieve a win.
1/10 America Chavez
For players looking for a consistent turn six game, America Chavez is arguably the most reliable map in Marvel Snap.
America Chavez’s special ability guarantees you’ll draw her in turn six, and never before. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t access her before then. Thanks to Jubilee, which plays the highest card in your library when revealed, players can cheat America Chavez for a whopping nine additional powers. Even without Jubilee, nine power on turn six is often enough to guarantee a location win.
