Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, like every other modern entry in the franchise, aims to keep players hooked through unlockable content. While Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2The shared attachments mean one less thing: Calling Card challenges, the battle pass, and player levels will definitely be there. As always, however, weapon camo challenges will be the most attractive grind, and thanks to some data mining, fans know what to expect from the new lineup.
While all signs point to: Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 With many different weapons making for a long rut for masterful camos, the leaks hint at a lineup that’s noticeably simpler than recent entries. Considering that players will probably need to get gold on every weapon in a platform for Diamond, and Damascus could be coming too, this isn’t a bad thing. While it’s good that camo challenges are less demanding, there’s one obvious problem with the leaked list: mounted kills.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s Camo Challenges Being less difficult is a good thing
While Call of Duty: Vanguard‘s camo challenges were decent, they were an extremely long rut, something that can be said for many Duty camo requirements of titles. Lucky for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, players are asked to complete each task less often. While many of the same requirements return, such as generic kill counts, the amount needed to complete the top-level challenge is lower. For example, SMGs now require only 500 kills in total. Assault rifles ask for 800 kills, while pistols only ask for 250 and Shotguns fall in between at 400.
Adjusting and lowering the kill requirements significantly, depending on the weapon, should be great news for players who hate sharpening higher-skilled weapons like Sniper Rifles. Other than that, all other challenges are fairly fair and are the standard Duty goals, such as making headshots, longshots, and double kills. One of the best changes is that the killstreak challenge requirement has been reduced from 5 to 3, which is a huge benefit for players who are not adept at the game. To go even for camo mastery in the past, players needed to be able to get five killstreaks on a regular basis, which was very difficult to achieve with things like melee weapons. Three is much more manageable, which is a big win for accessibility.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s Mounted Kill Challenge Is Too Restrictive
However, looking at the leaked list that was spotlighted by Insider Gaming, one red flag immediately becomes apparent: mounted murders. While editing is another strong point of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2‘s movement system, forcing players to sit in one place for an extended period of time is a frustrating decision. For rushers, it can be justifiably painful to camp behind a patch of cover and avoid targets, and the task is yet another example of how Infinity Ward encourages camping.
Except it’s an extension of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2‘s camping problem, the actual homicide rate is ridiculous for certain categories. While SMGs require 50 mounted kills, which is already a lot, players need 100 mounted kills for Assault Rifles. Considering how the rest of the challenge list simplifies things and lowers the difficulty of the tasks, it’s strange that so many mounted kills are still needed. For many, this challenge will be a chore and the camo grind could be a lot less fun.
Besides all this, Call of Duty: Vanguard mounting innovations have been discontinued, as players can no longer move when mounted. As soon as players get in Modern Warfare 2, they’re stuck. While this can be seen as a balanced decision to make editing a little disadvantageous, it will undoubtedly make this challenge even more tedious to work on. Hopefully this datamined camo challenge list is not final and the kill count will be lower at launch. Infinity Ward can also always make post-release adjustments, and swap possible mounted kills for something else. Since this challenge has been heavily hated in recent years for forcing players into a certain playstyle, it’s a bummer to see it again – especially since the rest of the challenge setup seems to be fast-paced and fun.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 launches on October 28 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
