The Logitech G Astro A30 gaming headset seems to invade every aspect of your life, from taking it with you on the go to using it on your game consoles, but is it any good?
Logitech acquired the Astro brand in 2017, and everything has been given an extra Logitech splash ever since. Considered Astro’s accessible high-end headset, the Astro A30 promises quality audio without compromise between a number of devices.
The price of the A30 means it will compete against the mighty Steelseries Arctis Nova 7, but Logitech’s efforts have not failed, as the A30 is an accomplished gaming headset suitable for almost any scenario, and they can also be customized, too. .

Design
The Astro A30 gaming headset looks excellent from the moment you take it out of the box, the speaker labels are decorated with an oily effect and the navy blue color is a fresh take, compared to the list of endless matte black headsets we see. The headset’s plastic construction leaves a lot to be desired, however, as it creaks and didn’t really give us much confidence when we put them on or adjust them.
The pillow is fairly firm and made of a rubbery material which we found aggravates longer hair, which is a shame. Nevertheless, the sleek design of the headset makes it look great. Each earcup is adorned with a slew of buttons and settings, but it’s quite easy to get lost in these, and even after weeks of testing, we never really got used to them.
The detachable boom mic is a nice touch, but we would have preferred it to be more in line with the Steelseries mantra of just plugging it into the headset, rather than losing anything else. The USB-C charging port also fits nicely on the bottom, but the 27-hour battery life is fantastic and we only had to charge the headset a few times.
However, the soft ear cups are adorned with faux leather which we think is one of the most comfortable you can get on this side of the Steelseries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless, and the weight of the headset was comfortable to keep on our heads for hours on end. .
Sound quality
The soft ear cups are incredibly comfortable.
Firstly, there are a few modes we can test in regards to the sound quality of the Astro A30, firstly, gaming via Logitech’s Lightspeed Wireless and via PS5 was easy, we pumped through all kinds of music and surprisingly the headset’s sound profile succeeded. managed to handle dark and bassy sounds with ease, while at the same time having good clarity in the higher end when listening to music. It’s certainly a breath of fresh air after listening to so many bass-dominant gaming headsets.
The overall soundstage is fairly even and wide, but if you want to further configure the sounds you can also use the Logitech G Hub mobile app, which provided a frustration-free experience to customize our listening experience.
Here you can also configure the sound profile to be in ‘Astro Footsteps’ mode, making it a little easier to hear footsteps by lowering lower frequencies, without obscuring the profile too much. In Warzone, we managed to use this mode effectively to take out nearby enemies, and in Elden Ring it managed to deliver a wonderfully immersive experience.
Sounding more expensive than the headset actually costs, the Astro A30 manages to shoot high-end gaming headsets while also being equipped to handle almost any kind of game or music genre you throw at it. We loved hearing the roar of engines in Forza and the sci-fi soundscape of Halo: Infinite during our testing.
Thanks to the Bluetooth functionality, you can even use this as your lifestyle headset, although you might be slightly disappointed with the microphone quality.
Microphone Quality
Want to use this on another console? You will have to spend more money.
The A30’s dual-mic setup is nice to have, but neither the built-in mic nor the detachable boom mic failed to impress, when switching headsets the Astro A30 was consistently the most distorted, and while our friends switched to Discord could hear us easily enough, the internal mic was only really suitable for short phone calls, while the boom mic disappointed by delivering tinny quality we expected more from.
Considering how great the headset’s audio is, we couldn’t help but be slightly disappointed by the mics here,
Functions
The controls on the back of the headset are hard to reach.
Mixing on the headset worked fantastically well and we were able to connect to multiple different sources and switch between them with ease. Configuring the audio using the small control knob on the back was hard to find though and always required a bit of fiddling before getting it working and mixing the way we like it, but we did occasionally have to re-pair devices which was quite annoying became.
There is also no ANC on this headset, which we would have liked to see in this price range. There’s also the fact that when you buy the headset, you lock yourself in a dongle that’s compatible with PC and Xbox or PS5. It’s not a true multi-platform headset, as they like to market. You must pick up a separate dongle. In the meantime, headsets like the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 Max allow for multi-device connectivity and are also slightly cheaper. Again, for this price we expected more.
Should you buy it?
The Astro A30 gaming headset is undoubtedly a good gaming headset, but it has several caveats that we wish were flattened out a bit, it could be a little more comfortable and it could have easy-to-find controls, it would have been nice to have other features like ANC to see. No flashy replaceable ear cups of any kind can make up for a more thoughtful design.
