Disney Dreamlight Valley has a special way of taking you on a nostalgic journey when trying to unlock a character, and while she didn’t play a positive role in the movie, if you’ve seen Tangled, you should recognize Mother Gothel and her signature personality traits.
There’s a special quest to unlock Mother Gothel in-game, and she’s one of the few characters left in the valley after The Forgetting, even if it wasn’t exactly her choice. While it can be quite tricky to get hold of this character, she has certainly secured her place as a character in the life-simulating world of Disney Dreamlight Valley.

How to get Mother Gothel’s quest
Most characters in the game can unlocked from the dream castle, or just by interacting with them in the valley. Sadly, Mother Gothel doesn’t follow either one, because she… requires a lot of progress in the main story of the game. Here’s everything you need to do to get her quest:
- There are multiple areas in the valley and most have a main quest dedicated to them. These usually lead to attach different pillars in these areas. First you need the Pillar of friendship by reaching a certain friendship level with three characters.
- Next one, you have to unlock the Dazzle Beach with Dreamlightwhere to fix the Power column and unlock Ursula at the same time.
- Finally you need to unlock Forest of Valor and go through the main story to get the orb for the pillar in this area. In the process, you can unlock Kristoff and Donald Duck. The fix pillar of courage will cause Donald to give you a piece of paper.
- Go to your inventory and use this paper to get started The curse quest with the face of Mother Gothel as its logo. Finally, you need the . unlock Open place of trust Surface.
How To Get Mother Gothel Into Disney Dreamlight Valley
Once you’ve unlocked the mission, you’ll need to: find Merlin and talk to him about the newspaper Donald Duck gave you. He will tell you about the curse that engulfs the giant tree in the Glade of Trust. You can find this tree in the middle of the area, hard to miss.
He will also tell you that you need strong magic to lift the curse of the tree, namely: why you had to fix the three pillars prior to. If you get close to the tree, you can remove the curse by interacting with it.
Unfortunately, the curse doesn’t go away completely. It gets worse because now it is blocks the exit for every house within the valley. Almost every character is stuck in the valley, but you can enter the giant tree to see Mother Gothel . to find.
After talking to the woman, you learn that the… previous ruler of the valley captured her there with the curse to prevent her infamous deeds. She will also mention that the curse had consequences that now affect the valley.
This will be a bit of information overload as she will also tell you why she was captured. Finally she takes you to the Pillar of Trust and release the required Orb . to see on the other side of a broken bridge. You cannot cross the bridge because it was demolished centuries ago.
At the end of this dialogue Mother Gothel is already unlocked for you. You can give her gifts and raise her friendship normally. Although, you are required to complete the quest because it is the only way to interact with other people in the valley.
You will be asked for talk to Merlin and Ursula to solve this problem, as Mother Gothel isn’t that interested in helping you with it. Find them both on the beach and listen to them talk. Technically, you’re reading their dialogue instead of listening to it.
Watch what they say because it’s pretty important if you care about the lore for the game. The text box moves quite slowly, so you won’t have any trouble keeping up with it.
Once their conversation is over, you can talk to Merlin and learn more about the spell that takes you to another room. Afterwards, talk to Ursula to learn more about the required sacrifice for the spell to work, and it turns out someone has to give up their most cherished memories for the spell.
Kristoff will be the only person outside his house except for Merlin, Ursula and Mother Gothel. Find him and convince him to give away all his memories to Anna to save the village. This will take a few dialogues, but your selections don’t matter that much.
Go back to Ursula’s house after talking to Kristoff. Naturally, you have to build this house after completing the main mission on Dazzle Beach through the . to follow Liar dear liar scavenger hunt. In her cave, you will witness a pretty scary moviecausing you to change into a different shape.
In this form there will be fog everywhere prevent you from looking too far awayand although you can see all the surrounding characters, they will not see you.
You can’t access the Teleport Wells, but you must go back to the pillar in Glade of Trust. Once you’re in the general area, you can clearly see the Orb glowing.
Once you see the glow, head straight for it and you’ll encounter the same broken bridge. As Merlin said before, you will just be able to walk on air to cross this bridge and pick up the Orb. Place the thing in the pillar to return to your normal form and remove the curse from the valley whole.
In the end you can talk to mother Gothel again to complete this quest. Some interesting information will be revealed to you in this dialogue where you will learn that you are the ruler of dreamlight valley who left them hanging at The Forgetting.
Mother Gothel Friendship Rewards
Once you’ve acquired the character, it’s only fair to upgrade her friendship level as much as you can. You can upgrade a character’s friendship to level ten and unlock different friendship missions in the process, with a special reward that will be unlocked at each level to celebrate your friendship.
To quickly improve your friendship with Mother Gothel, you can talk to her every day and give her different gifts. Three gifts are featured every daywhich gives you extra EXP.
Furthermore, you can assign her a task at friendship level two that will give you extra EXP as you perform that task with her. Gardening is one of the best tasks to quickly improve friendship.
