After two years of early access, Obsidian Entertainment’s grounded has finally been released in full, giving avid players access to the full experience. In addition to a full story to work through, groundedThe gameplay is more of a survival sandbox experience where players take on the role of one of four protagonists who have been mysteriously reduced to the size of an ant and placed in the backyard of a suburban house.
It’s up to players to survive in the backyard by exploring, crafting tools, building bases and staying alive with food and drink to find out why this strange science experiment happened. Of course, the backyard is full of dangers such as Wolf Spiders, Koi Fish, and other apex predators like the Hedge Broodmother, though players must face these creatures to harvest useful resources and equipment. However, grounded does have a bit of an openness to it, forcing players to discover a lot of things for themselves.
This sense of discovery and exploration also applies to finding resources in the world, many of which must be found in certain backyard locations. This includes materials such as Sunken Bones, important resources for those looking to craft useful and powerful mid-game gear in grounded.
What are sunken bones?
As a resource, players must find many sunken bones to craft weapons and equipment. In particular, sunken bones are useful materials for crafting underwater-related items, which are hugely helpful for fully exploring watery locations such as the Koi Pond, Flooded Zone, and Pond Depths.
As for weapons, the sunken bones can be used to create the following on a workbench:
- Rusty Spear – This tier 3 weapon can inflict the infection debuff on enemies, reducing the speed and attack damage that can stack. Players can obtain this recipe by analyzing rust and reaching Brainpower Level 14.
- Bone Dagger – An upgrade from the Pebblet Dagger, this one-handed tool can be used underwater for harvesting items like Soggy Roots or fighting enemies like the Diving Bell Spiders. The recipe can be unlocked by analyzing a Diving Bell Spider Chunk and the dagger only needs 1 sunken bone to repair.
- Bone trident – Another Tier 2 weapon similar to the Bone Dagger, this trident is also extremely useful underwater. Not only does it have a great attack speed, but unlike other spears, it can also cause stun. The recipe can also be unlocked by analyzing a Diving Bell Spider Chunk, but it takes 2 Sunken Bones to fully repair.
In addition to weapons, sunken bones can also be used in making extremely useful tier 2 armor when using a workbench.
- Koi Scale Breastplate and Greaves – Light upper body armor, the Koi Scale set is great for those who are good at perfect blocking. The Perfect Block effect greatly increases the time window for getting a perfect block, while the Parry Stun streamlined upgrade effect significantly increases the amount of stun after a perfect block. With both pieces equipped, players gain the Dazzling Riposte bonus that reduces enemy defenses after a perfect block.
- bubble helmet – Light armor worn on the head, this item is extremely valuable for exploring water. Although defense is limited, this item adds 80 seconds to the player’s oxygen meter for a total time of 180 seconds. It also comes with a Sleek Armor upgrade called Hyperstamina, which further increases the stamina regeneration rate.
Where do you find sunken bones
Considering that the armor and weapons made with Sunken Bones involve water, that’s where players will want to go to find them. When searching the Koi pond, players can see them sticking out of the ground almost like teeth. Players must use an acorn shovel to dig them out.
Outside of the Koi Pond, players will also have the chance to find Sunken Bones from Buried Treasure in the Sandbox biome. This space is located in the southwest corner of the backyard. Finally, the third location where Sunken Bones can be obtained is from bits of buried treasure in the BBQ Spill biome to the north beyond the Upper Yard Ascent.
One thing to keep in mind is that all three of these zones are dangerous, although the Koi pond is largely the easiest to manage of the three and also easier to access earlier in the game. The other two biomes have dangerous insects such as ant lions, ladybug larvae and wolf spiders. In addition, both biomes are considered warmer zones and have a Sizzle effect that slowly kills the player the longer they are affected by them. When exploring these zones, players will want to make sure they have proper armor, such as Antlion gear, or eat some of it groundedThere are several types of food that provide protection against hissing, such as the Quesadillantlion.
grounded is now available to play on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox Game Pass.
