God of War Ragnarok‘s issues with the issue of Fenrir can be resolved with the inclusion of Skoll and Hati. In Norse mythology and god of war RagnarokSkoll and Hati are two giant wolves, similar to the well-known dog Fenrir. However, this is where the two stories separate, as in Norse myths, Skoll and Hati are the sons of Fenrir and the grandsons of Loki. Considering that Atreus AKA Loki in God of War Ragnarok is in his teens, it wouldn’t really make sense for him to be a grandfather.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

So instead god of war (2018), Mimir tells Atreus and Kratos that Skoll and Hati are still the sons of the archwolf Fenrir, but he doesn’t describe them as Loki’s grandsons. However, Fenrir still existed as an enemy of the Aesir in god of war, and as sons of an enemy of the Norse gods, Odin imprisoned Skoll and Hati when they were puppies to keep them from getting involved with Ragnarok. However, he then released them to chase the sun and moon and resume the cycle of days and nights. From the recent god of war story trailer, Skoll and Hati no longer seem to serve Odin, standing next to Kratos and Atreus.

What role will Skoll and Hati play in God of War Ragnarok?

Later in the story trailer, Atreus shoots an arrow at the sun, causing Skoll to chase the sun away, forcing the day to turn into night. While this doesn’t show the sun being consumed, which is one of the major events that takes place in the Ragnarok of Norse mythology, it does suggest that Skoll and Hati could take on the role some thought Fenrir would take on. Even while some of Loki’s children from Norse mythology have appeared in god of war (2018), like the World Serpent Jormungandr, Sony Santa Monica has gone to great lengths to take those characters away from its version of the impostor god.

This could mean that Fenrir’s role, like Loki’s, will change dramatically. Fenrir in Norse mythology is the giant wolf prophesied to devour the sun and kill Odin. Even though Fenrir appears in God of War Ragnarok seems inevitable in one major way, there is the potential for Skoll and Hati to take on much of the archwolf’s role. The story trailer highlights this, showing Skoll chasing the sun away. This could mean that Sony Santa Monica is setting up the wolves to catch their prey at some point and take the sun out of the sky instead of their father doing it.

If Skoll or Hati eventually catch up and devour the sun, it could also mean that other aspects of Fenrir’s story wouldn’t make it. God of War Ragnaroklike the wolf’s fight with Odin. While it will be disappointing for some not to see a giant wolf fighting Odin, it seems that the focus is being taken away from the famous archwolf and put on his sons. Much of the promotional material for the title instead focuses on the pair of wolves that appear in the story. The God of War Ragnarok For example, DualSense controller has two wolves howling at the sky on the touchpad.

This is not to say that Fenrir will not appear at all in God of War Ragnarok, but his role can be greatly reduced to pay more attention to Skoll and Hati. Mimir’s exhibition about Skoll and Hati in the 2018 god of war game does not mention whether Fenrir is still imprisoned or not. This leaves the door open for Fenrir to get into the game in a variety of ways, and Atreus and Kratos may join forces with Skoll and Hati to free their Archwolf father.

What this means for the story of God of War Ragnarok

However, if Fenrir doesn’t appear in a major role in… God of War Ragnarok, and Skoll and Hati are the ones who devour the sun and spawn Ragnarok, this could have major implications for the game’s story. It looks like Skoll and Hati will be joining Kratos and Atreus for at least part of their journey, and the story trailer reveals that Sony Santa Monica’s version of Loki will be the one directing the Wolves, rather than his father. With Atreus leading the way in God of War Ragnarok’s story, this could lead to him being the catalyst for many events that initiate Ragnarok.

Atreus has already hit Baldur with a mistletoe arrow, causing the god to feel pain again and trigger the events of Ragnarok. In God of War RagnarokAtreus could also order Skoll and Hati to chase or devour the sun for good. This means that the roles of Skoll and Hati could also revolve around Atreus and the role he will play in the apocalyptic events of Ragnarok.

If Fenrir isn’t the one who kills Odin as well, this could leave the door open for another character to defeat the leader of the Aesir gods. Odin is a mysterious character in God of War Ragnarok, but if the events of the Norse apocalypse are to be completed by the end of the game, the Allfather will likely come to an end. Skoll and Hati could be the ones to bring down Odin, but if Fenrir’s role is changed, Sony Santa Monica could make some more adjustments to Norse mythology, and fans might even see Kratos being the leader of the game. kill the Aesir.

Another minor detail explained by Skoll and Hati taking over the role of Fenrir is Tyr’s hands. In Norse myths, Tyr only has one hand, as the other is bitten off by Fenrir shortly before Odin imprisons the wolf. Since Fenrir may play a minor role, it makes sense that Tyr would see some similar changes in God of War Ragnarok. Even if he has changed from his origins in Norse myth, many fans are still hyped to see Tyr, especially as another war god to compare to Kratos.

God of War Ragnarok is scheduled to release on November 9 on PS4 and PS5.
